On my 2006 with 140,000 i am changing the fluid in the rear axle and it has the stock helical gear lsd. I have built a few axles for my hobby but have never seen these carriers with a helical lsd. My question is should i be able to see those helical gear from the side of the carrier as shown in the picture. There does apear so be some wear but it seems to be coming from the lsd and not from something rubbing on the carrier as there is some existing markings (paint) that is not rubbed off. There is no noice coming from axle nor any metal at all in the drained oil. My assumption is the helical gears are somhow wearing on the inside of the carrier.

I wondered the same thing when I changed my fluid at 25k, even took pictures. But the good news is it's still going at 85k.

Others have asked this question of the TDR audience. This picture and issue is not an issue, it is as designed. Designed to relieve the oil from the center of the carrier.
