Sorry for the repugnant opening.

A cat got in through an the back slider and marked out the cloth seat as his own.

The vet gave us some stuff to spray on and rub in but it's not doing the job

Any general advice as to shampoo or other chemical/biological items you've had experience with?

SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) is making unkind remarks.

Thanks

David

I spilt a large quantity of gasoline in the wife's car and saturated the carpeting:eek:  I removed the carpet from the car and bought a large container of hand cleaner and rubbed the whole friggin lot right in. Hosed it all off then did the same thing again but with Febreeze. Smell gone and no sore eyes.

Good luck!

David,

There is a product available in the states called Nil'Oder. Comes in different formulations, available at pet stores. It imparts a "bubble gum" smell on things. Wether it removes or masks the smell, I am not sure but it would help. I have used it on fabrics with no problems.

When I was in high school one of my buddies passed out in the back seat of my POS '79 Mustang and pissed all over himself and the backseat. I never completely got the smell out, and whenever it rained the humidity made the **** smell come back with a vengence. I tried nearly every product I could afford at the time (remember I was in HS), but nothing could get rid of the smell! The car finally caught on fire and burned to the ground. I guess the smell went away...

My 2 cents- Gary Mc

A lot of carpet cleaning companies rent ozone generators for removing odors, not masking them. In a small enclosed space like a truck cab half a day would be plenty.

When I put my 2 puppies through puppy school, this particular subject came up one day.

Our dog trainer told us that the only true way to get pet urine out of carpet, upholsterty... etc, is to use an cleaner that contains some type of enzyme cleaner.

We picked up this stuff at Petsmart in a white spray bottle with pink writing called "Pet Zyme"

So far from what I have used of it... . it works great.

Hopefully this helps.

Try OdoBan. It is a commercial disinfectant and it works much better

than the enzyme types. I have not found an odor that it can't eliminate yet. Go to a news search engine such as www.deja.com and type it in and you will find a ton of feedback on it. You can buy it at SAMS.

8800 lb litterbox

Another product we've found works very well is called Cat-Off™ made by Thornell Pharmaceutical, shoudl be available through your pet store or local Vet. I have even mixed it into my carpet cleaner to 'expunge' thy offending stink!!

In 1989 I had a soft side suit case that got "marked" I still have that suit case around and it still smells even after multiple cleanings. I would throw the seat away and call the insuranse claims rep.

What is a cat lover to do? So many recipes and so few cats.

;) You can break them of that if your rub their noses in it and swat them with a newspaper :p LOL

Got insurance??

If you carry comprehensive, this is a covered peril, subject to your deductible. Turn in a claim and let the insurance company handle it. They know good sources for this type of thing..... smoke restoration, etc.

Try for a seat cover replacement and forget all the cleaners.

If you talk to a local medic or cop you should be able to come up with something. Both have to deal with much larger quantities of bodily wastes in the back seat typically. :(

Sometimes it's some kind of enzyme that digests the proteins in the urine, with other products it's something else.

Good luck,

Mike

Cat Odor

It's a two step process - -- Fabreez will take care of the immediate problem, a 22 short will eliminate the long term problem!

Dilution of solutions. Get it out and hose the pi$$ out of it.

Quote from the site that SteveE posted

"The #1 Seller is The Pet KIT for urine in carpet, hard wood floors, concrete.

This is our Three Step Process for carpet. One product will not do it all, so the animal can not smell where they have been. "

This really works.......won't just cover up

This product is - well pardon teh expression "The Cat's Meao!" Ok - don't kill me - but this will work by using enzymatic action to actually consume the odor - it won't happen overnight - but will take about a week - and it will work better if the vehicle is not freezing - so an electric heater may be in order.
