Does this sound like a proper software version number for an early build 2001? 33303307J I'm going by memory here, there might be another digit in there, I've got it written down out in my truck. I stopped in the local dealer, figuring I needed some abuse and asked the guy how much to hook up the DRB and tell me the version number, he says $89. 95 and I say for 15 seconds of work you want $90, you guys must be on crack. He then asks where my truck is and proceeds to do it for free, but this guy was the service writer and seems to have a little trouble and the number he got me was the "ECM Part Number" it was the only thing he could find in there. So does it sound right

Tim, when I had mine scanned the number was labled a "part number" on the scanner screen. You have a different number than mine there but it is in the same format.

Darkhorse thanks for the confirmation, I just went back through a few pages and guess what? I've got the same software version as Murle, oh oh oh lucky me Unless Marco wants a spare ECM and Guinnea pig to figure this out I guess I'll wait until all the dust clears.

Turbo Tim 1, my original SW # was 333033305J. I just had my SW updated to the 333033307J. That is the latest verson update for our early 2001. Hang in there Marco has gotten the dead peddle to work. He said it is not all the way there but he is getting close. Of course I will not let Macro stop on this one utill he gets it right or all his hair is gone... Got to skin them before you BBQ them... :D :D

SW update.

I think I've got it sorted out.

It's been a looong weekend with litlle sleep...

I've got the throttle for the early build 2001's working correctly now in my truck. Here's the last problem I still have... My truck is a '99 so it runs in limp mode with the the 2001 SW. To be 100% certain that everything is OK the SW needs to be tested in the truck(s) it belongs to. Murle, Kat you don't mind to be my guinea pigs... Don't you???? :D

Well I'm 99. 5% sure it'll work. That's why I say " I think".

I have to say a few words to Murle,

Thanks, Thanks, Thanks... .

You've helped me big time to steer into the right direction to solve this problem!!!

So now you're supposed to:

1) Wait in front of your place for the UPS truck to show up.

2) Test your ECM in the 5 minutes after you recive it.

3) Fire the BBQ in case it does not work... . :-laf :-laf

I'll PM you the UPS TRK# later today.

Same goes for Eric 'xept #3... .

So far I have worked only on Murle's and Eric's ECM's. With what I've found out about these, I want to check all the other software versions in order to be sure that there are no more bugs hidden somewhere... I'll send them back to Doug within a couple of days. Sorry, please be patient... Thanks!

Over at DTR , Battering Ram has kindly posted his Dyno results with the CaTCHER.

I'm not a great dyno fan but since several are asking for dyno numbers, here you go... .

Let me know what you think about them.

Aughhh Geeee... ( head down toe digging in the dirt) You say the nicest things Marco... . Good thing I only have one bolt holding on my ECM... Faster change out that way :D

SilverDodge,

Well, uhhmmm, noooo... .

(I'm scratching my head... )

I think I've solved the problem. BUT the only way to know for sure is Murle or Eric... ... . :eek: :eek: :eek: :{ :{

Their ECM's are on the way to them... UPS Express...

We'll see... . I've solved more difficult problems before.

Marco

SW muddle update.

The different software's for the VP Cummins are:

( I'm CERTAIN there are no other's )

For MY 1998. 5 :

Manual or Automatic

For MY 1999:

Manual or Automatic

For MY 2000 :

Manual or Automatic

(It seems that there have been also very few HO's ( six speed ) for this MY.

I've never seen or worked on one, I don't have that software. )

For MY 2001 "early build" :

( With rear drums )

Manual; Manual HO, Automatic

For MY 2001:

( With rear discs )

Manual; Manual HO, Automatic

For MY 2002:

Manual; Manual HO, Automatic

ALL these MY's can be found in Federal or California versions. For all FEDERAL software's there can be versions for extreme cold weather (fuel#1 )

Assuming that the problem with the early build 2001's is solved...

There is still a problem with the CC. It seems to affect some (not all ) trucks

with the electronic cruise. Darkhorse has that problem... Sorry!!!

I'm getting in touch with him to solve that problem SOON!

Marco has PM'd me with a couple of options on how to proceed with the cc problem. I must say to all that he is being extreemly generous. We're going to get to the end of these SW problems yet.

I did take a look at Battering Ram's dyno graphs. The biggest problem I see with comparisons is that the graphs start at 1700 rpm. The big gains my SOP meter feels are right off idle & how much faaster I can get rolling without the smoke show as compared to when I was useing my old EZ. The fact that the graphs use different scales also makes them hard to comare.

Quote from Darkhorse.

Generous? Who? Me????

Nahhh, c'mon. Simply trying to fix what I've screwed... . FAST.

Yours is a good point about the dyno. By 1700Rpm the CaTCHER is already up to steroids...

I would like to mention another point which in my mind make dyno numbers a litlle less important than for most.

On the dyno what do you do? You lay down FULL throttle.

How often do YOU use full throttle on the ROAD? I do (almost) never.

What about a poll? Oo.

My point is that for daily driving the important part is what happens before WOT. A dyno will never show that.

Marco...

Bingo! That's what I love about my CaTCHER. I did turn off my Comp last week when we had several days of rain. Level 2 with my bombs and 4. 10's was just too hard to handle. Fine with the box off.

Edit: referring to losing traction under acceleration from stop.

Just did a tracking on my ECM from Marco... . Looks like it is going to be here tommorw... . If the UPS gods do their job right...

Have not used any wood YET!!! Just been stacking it up for when I fire her up. No since doing a job half right. When I fire her up you will be the second to know... I'll be the first to know. :D :D

I can just see it now..... Marco with his hand and feet tied together turning slowly on the grill with a ECM in his mouth :--)

Yea sure... At least the original has always worked. Of course I could put it somewhere else when you get BBQ if it don't work

ECM was scanned in
