Competition air shutoff update

Not trying to cause a stir but went to the dyno last weekend. The two trucks that had the mad ecm lost quite a bit of power. has anyone else noticed this. One truck had rv 275's,tst comp, fass, and the usual. Regular Mad ecm for 5 spd truck. lost about 30hp and 60ftlbs. The other truck Had sp66,drag comp,Mach 5's,full trans billet shafts,And all the rest. lost 30hp and 120ftlbs or more. Was special ecm w/o timing for auto. Everything seemed ok but power was way low and smoke was unruly. I hear good things about it but from my experience,I would not have it. On the first truck torque was a little better with the box off,but tapered off as the box was turned up. Just curious what you guys thought.

was reading on a couple of other threads about some of the dynos that were being made with the catcher, the catcher has the capabilities to fuel to the point of lost power, therefore guys start turning down there fueling boxes. I think the smarty is a great idea with the nine levels of fueling or timing in any configuration. You can change the anount of fueling in a couple of minutes. So that you are not over fueling to the point of loss power. Also like the idea of being able to recalibrate tire size. Still waiting on mine to arrive so just passing on here say.

From what i have read they seem to be the ticket. My personal experience is not good. I have only seen two trucks with them so my experience is limited. The first truck i have driven a few times and i am not impressed and i doubt it if excessively fueling with rv injectors. the other truck makes over 500 hp so im not sure if it is right for that combo either. From what i read the tst comp/cather stack would be a good combo. That just isnt so

You shouldn't lose any power with an ECM or Smarty, you may not exactly make more either. The difference is when the power comes in and where you feel it. If you didn't notice a difference in the truck while driving it with and without the ECM, then something is wrong somewhere. There is a very noticeable difference in the way a truck drives after the ECM is changed.

I agree with Ted, and normal daily driving should have a night and day difference in throttle response between the ecm's. . Not always more top end power, but very different on when it comes in.

I did not dyno with the TST and stock ecm, for lack of timing. But I have dyno'd roughly 15 other times with a Drag Comp and stock ecm on various dynojets. The result was always 585 every time on every one ( except when I had a comp failure). I gained 70 hp with the Catcher TST stack. I will say I am severely overfueled with the TST on 9. I believe had I turned it down to 5/6 I would have dyno'd higher.

Truck reddodge is refurring to is mine.

00 DTT auto, Mach5, SP66, & the other basics. Made 18 passes on truck with several different combos. Comp/ Drag Comp/ tst comp/ 2 Mad ecms (with & without timing). Lost 27hp/143tq just by switching stock ecm to mad w/out timming & lost 31hp/140 tq with the regular mad ecm. TST comp #9 stacked with Mad with timing made 23hp /109tq less then the drag comp did with stock ecm. (LESS) I was hoping this one would have been the ticket! TST stacked w Mad with no timing did 5hp/92tq better than the Mad with timing. Was on a dynojet with corrected #s cushion set at #3 All 18 runs were made in 1:45 min time span. Truck was driven in identical passes.

We even switched the stuff over to another truck and it lost 3 hp/ gained 84 tq in stock trim but when stacked up with tst box, stock ecm made more hp and tq on every setting of the tst box.

Marco, any input on this. I screwed with this last year with Doug from ADT and he sent dyno sheets with the first ecm back to you. I went back to dyno after I received my special ecm and nothing was any better.

I will say the truck responds better far as daily driving goes,(box off) but for all out performance I'm not getting anywhere with it. Just drive with the box on and get same result!

Last year I think I didn't have a good wire tap on pump

We switched maps out from truck to truck. Still with Mach 5s and no boxes (wiring disconnected from everything) truck only made 302hp/656tq. Last year on Mustang it dynoed 299hp same set up. 363 hp same box 5x5. (which I never checked pump wire so that makes sense that it only gained 63 hp. I had test light on pump wire on dyno and it was hot. I know my box is good because it made 150hp on the stock 2002. The pump is only a few months old. ( Bosch reman) Just doesn't make sense why #s are so low for Mach 5s. Going back next Sat. to try some more stuff out. Want to switch the pump out to a hrvp on dyno and see the difference if any. Open for any thoughts here!

Can a bad map loose 80-100hp.

Best # that I could come up with all the different setups was stock ecm drag comp on 5x3 at 507Hp/853tq.
