Hey guys. I did a NV4500 conversion on my 98 about a year ago. The check engine light came on (looking for the auto), not there. Now the truck has to go through emissions. I called a local dealer and they thought I was nuts for swapping out my auto and that I had blown up two! They told me that the computer can't be re-flashed for the manual. They also said that a computer from a manual truck wouldn't work because I have egr and a manual computer won't see the EGR :( Don't believe them either way. I know it's been done before. How can I fix this?

Also when the truck is cold it idles around 500rpm and when it warms up it's around 800rpm. Is it normal for such a range? I have to give it a little throttle to start or it cranks a long time and if I let off to fast it stalls. Any ideas?

Do they scan the truck or just look for the light? If they just look for the light pull the bulb. You can bump your idle speed a little as the 500 is low... . but there is nothing wrong with using a little pedal to start a 12V.

They plug into the truck. They also look to see that the light comes on with the key. I thought of hooking the light to an oil pressure sensor but I still have the codes.

The codes that I'm getting are as follows-

P0753 Shift Solenoid A Electrical

P0743 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Electrical

P0713 Trans Fluid Temp Sensor High Input

P0711 Trans Fluid Temp Sensor Circt Range/Performance

P0748 Pressure Control Solenoid Electrical

P1763 ???????

If I clear the codes and then start the truck I only get

P0753, P0713, and P1763. Did I not do something or do something wrong when I did the swap?

I would really appreciate some help as the truck will be off the road in 2 weeks as registration runs out due to no emissions test.

or if you have more time than money(like me) wire in resistors so the computer can see those values and it shouldnt throw any more codes

I was thinking about this last night a bunch... I think you will need a wireing harness out of a old auto and the solanoids and plug back into your truck trans harness, then you can plug in the old solanoids that should clear most of the codes completing the circuits,... the one I am not sure of will be the one that reads line press a guy will have to fake that out somehow, insulate each solanoid stuff it all in a 1 gallon ziploc tape the lip tight and tie it up ontop of the trans and go get sniffed. thats where I would start if it was my truck.

Good News

Can't get a waiver so I took the truck to emissions with a CEL and fiqured that it would fail and I could get a time extension to fix it. It PASSED!!!! In CT a 96-98 12V can go through emissions with a CEL because it is over 8600 lbs gvw. They do a rolling test because the computer has no emissions info on it. So bad EGR and all it passed.

Thanks for the input from everyone.
