01 2500 5 speed needs some attention before something bad happens. I'd rather not just start guessing on the problem and throwing parts at it.

I replaced my block mounted PCM when the truck started to go crazy with revving up on its own out of no where.

Problem fixed

New problem: After installing a used pcm I now have no oil pressure and my CEL is always on. Could changing the pcm cause the oil pressure sensor to go bad? Or could the pcm have a glitch in it to where it cant see oil pressure? Does the pcm have anything to do with oil pressure?

Thanks

If I recall, I thought the oil pressure was read by the ECM and there were 2 versions, one actually showed variable pressure and one was more of an idiot light in gauge form. Had a loaner ECM in my truck and the oil pressure always read the same regardless of rpm. With the original ECM, the pressure would fluctuate with temps and RPM. Might try testing the sensor, not sure what you should see on a meter. By block mounted PCM I believe you are referring to the ECM, driver's side of the block, under the factory filter housing. ECM may not be programmed properly or may need a different sender, I don't know. Good luck, hope you get it fixed.

I may be all wet here as it's been awhile since I sold my 2nd gen (2002 3500 ETH/DEE). The oil pressure senders on the 2nd gens were problematical and prone to failure. Dodge's solution was to supply a "go/no-go" sender that indicated you either had oil pressure or you didn't. When Dodge installed the "go/no-go" sender, they reflashed the ECM to reflect the change from an analog to a digital (0/1) sensor output. Perhaps your replacement ECM isn't programmed correctly for the sensor type installed on your engine.

Yes I thought it was the pcm but I guess it was the ecm that I changed. Its been a while. And maybe the ecm isn't programmed to work with it idk? But I remember calling a Chrysler dealer about having it reflashed and they said it cant be flashed? I have no idea why but that's what they told me. I'd hate to spend $80 on a new sensor if that wont fix it though. So maybe if I got the updated sensor problem may b solved?

Do yourself a favor and buy a manual oil pressure gauge and mount it in your truck somewhere. My factory oil pressure gauge actually drops at idle and comes up the higher the RPMs, but the problem is its about 15psi off consistently.
If you dont like the idea of running a gauge and having to find a place to mount it, I would at a minimum buy a cheap manual gauge and hook it up to verify oil pressure. The factory gauge should not really be trusted to verify actual oil pressure. There is a plug on the top of the oil filter you can remove to tap into.

I can do that but this is my wife's truck and I really don't wanna run hot oil in the cab. I wish there was a way to put an electronic guage in the cab. But the my CEL would still be on..i believe my cel wont go off til I get the oil pressure guage to work

Thank you JR that would be perfect! Do you happen to know where it splices into? And my dad has a 10k snap on scan tool so he should be able to get that cel to stay off if its only on bc of oil guage. I haven't asked him about it yet

Thanks again

It is getting harder to find anyone that wants to flash the older controllers. The hardware we use is getting old, cables are wearing out and it takes more time and effort than the new controllers

Ok so if I can't find someone to flash it is there a way to tell which ascending unit I have so that I can get the opposite to see if the ecm will work with it.
