Has anyone replaced the center bearing assembly on the driveshaft themselves? Do you need special tools or is it easier to just have a shop take the bearing off and press the new one on? I think this repair is in the near future and was just wanting to get a heads up on what is involved. Called the dealer and they wanted $147. 00 just for the bearing. I suppose auto-zone or napa would have the same part for a much better price. Hopefully this is an easy fix.

I did mine a year ago and tryed the auto zone ,napa ,pepboys and they all had a one size fits all center bearing for 25 or 30 dollars so put it in and it was crap didnt fit rite and vibrated like mad. So out it came and i went to dodge and paid 140. 00 and all was well. I would pay for the dodge one and only do it once next time. I did it on my bench with hammer, vise and basic hand tools. It was a lot of pounding but not to bad mabey 2 or 3 hrs to do with the ujoints at the same time. Be sure to paint a line down the yokes and shafts to line it all up so it stays in ballance.

DBentley,

Thanks for the reply. You answered all of my questions. I am not sure if my center bearing is going bad just yet. After driving for a little over an hour at hwy speeds the bearing wasn't hot at all. Dittto for the u-joints. I seem to have a very slight vibration and I'm just not sure where it is coming from. I guess I will have to take a wait and see if it gets worse approach.
