2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Center console armrest re-covering

My center console in my 99 is worn out... Has some holes in the leather top where my arm rests. Has anyone had theirs re-covered or anything like that. How much did it cost and is it something you can do yourself. I know there's a plastic lip that pops off and the top is stapled to it, but Im not sure how to get the lid completely off so I can get to the backpart and get it off. Any tips or experiences are appreciated.
