I have been reading this site for a long time, great info. But while doing a little search before installing my new automatic I couldn't find a thread on best practices for changing one out. If some one knows a link please help me out.

Or how about starting one. My first questions are?

Should I replace or flush the cooler with 230K on the original?

Should the lines be upgraded or replaced, I read something about switching to hydraulic hoses that sounded interesting.

How many miles before I should check the play on my crank while I am in there?

Can I slide the transmission out over the lines with out removing them? 2WD

Is there any reason to remove the spacer?

Are there any linkage components that are prone to failure?

I guess this is long enough, I have changed quite a few gassers out but longevity was never a concern :-laf
