I was going by wiring diagram on 8w30-43. But I could of missed a ground. (a-31,a-32)

Wires z-11 and z-12 feed into ground -119. Before when I read thru the manual a couple other gound wire spliced into the z-11 and z-12 wires.

I haven't checked out pin location yet for ground connections.

I know that a-4 is ground for several senors which are gounded thru the PCM.

I haven't re-read all the sections on the PCM.

charging

Go straight to the engine speed sensor. The engine will run without the charging system if the sensor can't see the crank spinning.

Need help, lost a/c tach and charging system yesterday, checked all connections and fuses all look ok,replaced speed sensor and still same problem where are the grounds that your running a new ground to the fender for the pcm? Thanks Jason

Hookemupman,

I think the problem ground wire is coming from the engine speed sensor.

The PCM supplies the ground for the engine speed sensors along with other sensors. cavity- A-4 of pcm connector

The ground(g-119) for the PCM is located Left side of engine(driver's side)

about 6 to 8 inches in front of the intake manifold heaters (grid heaters). Ground 119/112 share same bolt.

Oh yeah a/c compressor clutch is on gound 119 also.

So you have ground wires comming from cavity A-4 which supplies several grounds to sensors (including a/c).

Possible broken ground wire coming out of engine speed sensor to pcm ( if this wire is boken loss of tach and charging system is definite, a/c?)

There are two grounds coming out of pcm a-31,a-32 that ground at g-119. ( did not check to see which one 31/32(or both) supplied ground to A-4)

Good luck

Lost charging system, Tach and AC

Had the same problem a few months back,

My serpentine belt had frayed and cut the wiring harness to the engine speed sensor..... I knew where to start looking thanks to this thread or I would never have seen it!

Thanks for all the good information!!

Mine started doing same thing yesterday after I changed out battery cable ends. My manual shows two ground wires from each negative post, one 6 gauge and one 10 gauge.

I thought maybe I left a wire off, I only have one, (the 6 gauge), on the right negative post.

My belt is frayed, but I don't see that anything has damaged the sensor wires.

It was charging fine before I messed with the cable ends, any ideas?

Scott, that happened to me. Mine was also having random A/C problems. Wired around TC lockup thingy as temp measure. Finally turned out to be the PCM

About $250. 00 I think refurbished from dealer.

Fixed my charging problem with new alternator today. Inside the box was a piece of paper directed at Dodge Diesel owners that no charge is also caused by a problem with the CRANK SENSOR.

Hookemup, it goes on to say that no tach, no cruise and no A/C, along with no charge indicates problem with crank sensor.

I guess the alternator people got tired of us Dodge folks telling them their alternators aint with **** lol,
