Couple of days ago the check engine light stayed on after starting but noticed no change in performance, etc. Later it went off for the rest of the day. Today, it stayed on again but still noticed no problem until I came out from a restaurant and the engine would turn over fine but wouldn't start. Tried 3 or 4 more times with same result. Checked the fuse in my FASS fuel system since I didn't hear it run prior to starting as I normally do. It was fine. Opened the drain cap on the FASS filter and drained off a small amount of fuel. Tried again and the engine fired right up. Everything seemed normal except for the check engine light being on for several miles then the engine missed a few times and the tachometer started jumping around, dropping to zero and then would jump back up to normal.

Any suggestions from any of you fine folks of TDR would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. BJesik.

BJesik: What is the number of the code with your check engine light? It would help to know to narrow down the problem.

Don't have that info. Can I get that myself or do I need to take it to someone with a code reader? Thanks for your help. BJesik

Put the key in the ignition. Turn it forward to the wait to start position and back to the off position three times in a row. On the third time leave the key in the wait to start position and your mileage in your digital odometer will show you the code or codes. For example P0237 or P1693. If it doese'nt work the firsrt time try again. Some times if you go too fast or too slow it does'nt work. After the code or codes are displayed it will say P-done in the odometer.

I lost all the wait to start (light, pump & heaters) but would start fine - cured with a reflash. I loose oil gage on start up - I shut it down and on second time when started is now back on. I was cooling down (2 min idle after coming home) and had my tach went to zero, then the cel turned on, and the tack jump back on/off/on-twice. I check my codes and got my normal 3. I shut it off and went in the house, did not try a restart since.

However in the past, I checked the codes with the key and then pluged in a smarty to clear them and 2 more codes showed up with the smarty.

Thanks a bunch. I'm at work at the fire station but left my truck home due to the problem. May not get off until Sunday morning. Will try to get my son to get the codes later today and will get them to you ASAP. Really appreciate your help. Don't know what I would do without TDR and fine folks such as you. BJesik.

Sounds like the crank position sensor, pulling the codes will hopefully lead you in the right direction.

Not much help there,

P1693 (M) DTC Detected in Companion Module A fault has been generated in the companion engine

control module.

P1693 (M) DTC Detected in PCM/ECM or DTC Detected in ECM

A Companion DTC was set in both the ECM and PCM

This is a general code but not leading to the source.
