I have an 04. 5 4x4 crew longbed, running a tst box at 4-3, kn type filter and no cat, but stock muffler. I have 5000 miles on it and it is running great, but the check engine light came on yesterday. Is it bad fuel or the cat or... ?

Use the key method to pull of the engine light code. (Turn off and on x3). Once you pull up the code we will be able to tell you what it is. More than likely its overboost or crankshaft position sensor. If it is is will reset after 5 starts or so.

thanks for that answer, very comforting, just weird that 1 week after the cat fell off, the check engine comes on

CODE P0336

what is it trying to tell me?

The other day my check engine light came on. Apparently if it's not blinking it's not as serious (according to the manual). I called a couple of service managers for opinions before bringing it in - the truck only has 2K miles on it. One told me it could be something as simple as not making sure my gas cap was put on tightly enough (said I should make sure to click the cap 3 times after a fill). I specifically remember only clicking it once at the last fill, so I went out and clicked it three times. The light went out after a few starts and before I took it in. I guess the tight gas cap has something to do with loss of vacuum in the tank and this can trigger a sensor. They have so many sensors in these things I wouldn't be surprised one day if the light comes on after ripping a noxious f**t ( too much hydrogen sulfide in the cab )!
