This morning the 'Check Engine" light came on. So I pulled over when I could and checked all gauges, voltmeter was showing app. 8+volts. (This has happened before) Shutdown engine and checked under the hood, nothing obvious. Started up again, voltmeter 8+ volts, ran up to speed and voltmeter did not go to 14 volts. A few minutes later "Check Engine' light again! Pulled over, shut down and waited a few minutes, started up and voltmeter up to 14+ volts and no 'Check Engine' light. Anyone have any ideas what could not be working correctly? Relays?

Thanks,

Crabman

What's the fix for this problem? I know that someone has had this problem before and knows what to do. I have fixed every problem that I have had (hasn't been that many) by reading the posts posted here. What a wealth of info!!!

Thanks,

Changed out the air intake heater relay today. $74. 00 bucks +tax from the Dodge dealer. Ouch!! Disconnected both batteries and removed the drivers side one. Drew a diagram of the wiring hookup and removed all wires. Cleaned all wiring at relay position and also where they attach to the air heater on engine. Reattached everything and put liquid tape on all the fittings to keep the corrision down, then the rubber boots. (if you live near the ocean, everything rusts!!) Reinstalled battery and cleaned all terminals.

Problem Solved!!!

Also replace the idler pulley which I had already purchased from Practical Solutions Diesel Products. $49. 00 no tax 2nd day air delivery (go figure). Ever so nice people to deal with, send me the pulley the same day I called, even before he received my check in the mail. (they weren't set up for credit cards then) Excellent product, very well made and way above the OEM one.
