The ultimate pick-up truck?

I looked at that truck a few weeks ago, its in rough shape, to say the least. Was kinda hoping it was a 6x6, as that is how it looks in the photo, but it isnt.

It was originally advertised as having a turbo 903 V-8, but when I found out it was a 555, that pretty much killed the idea of buying it.

I think that thing looks pretty cool!! If I had the money (and the facilities) I would love to buy it, drop in a C8. 3, add a cool brush guard, shorten the frame, put in 4wd (or 6wd), and build a custom expedition camper for the back. Just dreaming.

I just saw a bunch of those on Ebay today. I was looking for a 1945-ish Power Wagon.

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I saw this truck too. If it had a 903 it would be pretty cool, but the 555, those are pretty much junk from what I've seen.

My uncle has a Versatile 4wd tractor with a n/a 555. Put 5000 some hours on it before it spun a cam bearing.

Thats pretty good for a 555. At my Dad's work they have a turbo charged 250 HP 555 in a Terra-gator and they always have problems with it. It doesnt start good when it gets below 40 and it always has an oil leak or some other problem. I think its been rebuilt twice too and it hasn't even hit 10,000 hours. I should point out though that this machine was not taken care of before they bought it. So I guess like anything else, if you take care of it and maintain it, it should last a long time.

I'd like to swap the 6-71 out of mine and put a 8. 3 in also, Do the class 8 engines all have the bellhousing pattern?

nah, you gotta stick with the green grenades... just uprate to a 8v92 with twins on it... it might fit... and would sound awsome when tuned and wound out :D:D:D:D

Nick, I'll put your name on the list of people that I can ship a ton of oily, puking, noisy, green iron to, if I ever had the time and money to convert to an 855 or 8. 3. just kidding.

Whats a good price for a military duece and a half with a mutli fuel diesel?

I have seen them from $4500 - $6500 depending on the condition. Watch the military surplus site (www.govliquidation.com), once a year of so they seem to have a couple of Duce and 1/2's come up. A buddy bought a nice one for $4800, never used it and sold it for the same price.

I have to tell you that a duce is one big freaking truck. If you ever buy one be prepared for a slow, noisy, rough ride, but it would be great in rush hour traffic.

The real cool duce's are up by eureka, they strech the axles apart or just remove one and run super tall road grader tires... unstoppable.
