First, thanks for all the replies in my other thread about which transmission to pick. That was helpful!

Now, I have been lurking around, searching, reading and gathering info. I did a lot of research before deciding on the Dodge, and I believe the Cummins is the way to go.

Awesome newsletter, by the way. I read through the whole TDR nl last night. Great stuff.

Anyway, when I get the truck, it seems that there are things that people do right away:

- fuel tank vent mod

- EGT/Boost gauge (I'm thinking Westach in the SRT pod)

- mudflaps/fender liners

- brake controller

- bed liner (thinking Line-x)

- tonneau cover (if I have the $$$)

I am sure that I am missing some stuff. I don't plan on bombing much if at all, at least until the warranty runs out. :D

If anyone can think of something else to do to make the truck more enjoyable and more reliable, please chime in!

TIA

If you buy a Ram that doesn't have the security package, I'd recommend the EVS-II system as one of your first mods. From what others have posted it appears the theft of our Rams is fairly simple when the Sentry key system is not implemented.

Also, depending on your needs you may want to consider the BedRug instead of a spray-in liner. I had decided to go with Line-X when I saw a BedRug system and realized it met my needs better for almost half the price. You can buy them online for $279 shipped.

the truck that I think I will end up getting has the security group installed. I looked at the bed rug, and I think I would prefer a spray-on lining. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Oh yeah, brite-box. Check!

Sentry keys are the grey ignition keys that have an RFID (radio frequency identifier) transponder embeded inside. This transponder is coded to match a receiver mounted inside the steering column. Only keys that have been programed for that vehicle can start it. There is no way for a thief to defeat the system unless they replace the computer with an unprogramed one directly from Dodge.

The Mopar EVS-II system also comes with an infrared Interior Theft Sensor (IT-S) that detects vandals striking the body panels and glass, glass breakage, and bumps from being towed away, and will sound the lights and horn.

You must have keyless entry installed to use this system. EVS-II can be purchased over the Internet or from a dealer, but the dealer has to enable the system in the computer. Additional sentry keys can be cut by a locksmith and then programed following the instructions in the Owner's Manual. You must already have two programed sentry keys present in order to program any new ones.
