Wife and I went and looked at a 2500 crew cab today and it's what we were looking for, except we're kinda concerned about the rear seat working well with a child seat in the center position. Unlike the Mega Cab, the bottom seat cushion on the crew cab comes in at the center to make room for a cup holder on the floor.

Has any one put a forward facing child seat in the center location on the new crew cab? Did you have any issues with the child seat working well? The bottom cushion looks awful narrow front to back... maybe even narrower than on our '99 quad cab.

I have put a seat in both outboard locations with no issue.
"Do not install child restraint systems equipped with LATCH attachments in the center position of a Quad Cab®, Mega Cab® or Crew Cab model rear seat. The LATCH anchorages in this seat are designed for the two outboard seating positions only. A child may be placed in the rear center seating position of a Quad Cab®, Mega Cab® or Crew Cab model using the seat belt and child tether anchorage. Failure to follow this may result in serious or fatal injury. "
This is from the Owners 'Manual' (CD)
As far as the center seat is concerned, as long as it is a small kid, they should be fine.

Thanks for the info from the manual. Have you , or anyone you know actually installed a child's seat in the center position? On top of the LATCH system, I was wondering how stable the child's seat would be when the truck seat is so narrow there.

This is our first child and she's not yet in the forward facing seat, but going to be shortly. We just don't have any idea about how the next child's seat compares to the rear-facing one we're using now. Since one of the main reason's we're looking at a new truck is for the crew cab feature, it's kinda important for us that the forward facing child's seat be secure and stable in the center position.

I looked back through the 2nd gen. forum when I found out we were having a baby and thought I remembered something about the larger, forward facing seats actually taking up less room in the back of the truck. Does that seem right to you?

Again... thanks for your help.

You are correct the forward facing child seats take up much less room than the rear facing. I currently have one of each in my 99 and the rear facing will only fit in the middle and it protrudes inbetween the front seats. I had an 06 and the rear facing seat fit fine and felt stable in the center position and I believe the new crew cab seat is larger than the 06 and the 99.
