I've worked in a couple shops and some are worse than others, but it all boils down to TIME.
One place I worked at was real bad about it if you went over what Alldata said it should take... . of course it doesn't factor in stripped/broken bolts, looking for the right tool, waiting on parts, etc.
So, it's easy to overlook simple things when your rushing. I've done a few stupid things, like have 4 or 5 cars I'm working on at the same time. Waiting on oil filter for 1 of the cars... forget about it, fill it up and make a big mess when I fire it up. It makes it worse when the boss is breathing down my back... what's taking so long... is it done yet... this was supposed to be done an hour ago. :-{}
I was very ****** when I trusted a reputable transmission shop to do the work on my truck (lost 2nd gear). It worked great... a bit down the road I decide to change the oil and filter, to make sure there's nothing in there from the rebuild.
Well 3 bolts for the pan are stripped. So I bring it back, and the fix it... yeah haha. I get home and there's ATF all over the place. Well the fixed the 3 that were stripped, and then stripped out 7 or 8 more! I fixed it myself with heli-coils, which is what I should have done in the first place... It gets me that I had a perfectly fine case when I started, and now it's cobbled together.
