Will Dodge/Chrysler lifetime power train warranty still be honered as it's written?

I almost bought a new Dodge Hemi Charger last year just as the gas prices skyrocketed.

Then when I looked for a gas saver Dodge had a poor choise.

Sure. The new US goverment will. You'll know how this operates if you've ever have had to attend a county hospital. ;)

Harvey, i too bought dodge/chrysler vehicles since 2001, '03 1500 ram, '03 3500 ctd ram, 04 2500 ram with a hemi, '05 ram 3500, and now a 08 ram 5500, the difference is despite the negative side to this whole bailout/loan thing is i will continue to buy dodge rams.

that is the only positive approach i know to continue to support the mopars. the workers took compromises on their wages to keep working. instead of imediate wage increases it was promised to be paid at the end during retirement. this allowed their ceo's to make megabonusas because there wasn't a big wage increase on their watch.

i don't hear these polititions making multiple full retirements off of taxpayers money, willing to give up their rediculous incomes.

i don't care if the owner's name is chrysler, cerbelus, fiat, lee iococo (sp) or the union workers as long as they build the cars and trucks i love i will keep on supporting mopar.

by the way there have been a number of successful employee managed companies, give them a break

oh, yes, i forgot the 05 chrysler 300c with all wheel drive.

rich

i will continue to support chrysler and their employees.

Yeah, I admit it was probably unfair to say I wouldn't be interested in buying a future Dodge Ram from the company if it is owned and operated by the UAW. My comment was inappropriate and I don't actually mean it.

I don't like the methods of labor unions and blame them in equal share for destroying the auto industry, and, for that matter, every industry they dominate.

I also blame them for electing the current occupant of the White House. But even with my strongly held opinion of the labor unions, if they build a good Dodge-Cummins truck and I want another one I would probably buy one since they would be the only company building the truck I want to own.

I sure as blank wouldn't buy a Government Motors truck with a V8 diesel or a Ferd with whatever boat anchor they are offering as a temporary engine at that time

i agree with you on the union thing, but i will support the workers and mopar

we won't even discuss the ability of the government to manage anything other then taking care of their friends with bailouts, i'm just hurt that i can't find my name on the list. lol

warranty status?

What about the warranty on our new models? Where and how will we be able to get our warranty work done? Anybody know for sure? Mine is still under warranty and all of a sudden I have this sick feeling that I am going to be (along with a lot of others) on the outside lookin in. Still glad I made the choice I did though.

My truck is still in warranty also and I have never given the warranty even one brief thought.

First, there is no indication whatsoever that Chrysler intends to dishonor their warranty or that the bankruptcy judge would allow it. Many think the word "bankruptcy" means shutting the doors, dismantling the company. It does not mean that. BK means that the company has filed a legal request with a federal bankruptcy court for protection against their creditors. The BK judge will now oversee their operations to prevent creditors from shutting them down in an attempt to allow the company to work itself out of the current financial problem and eventually pay off as much of the debt as is possible. An auto company or other major manufacturer normally has funds set aside in separate accounts to cover their warranty obligations.

I've said this before but will say it again. Why are people so concerned about their warranty? If we buy a good product, and all of us Dodge-Cummins owners did, a warranty is of little concern. In 600,000 miles of driving (245,000 miles of driving while under warranty) the total value of warranty parts and labor provided for three Dodges by a Chrysler warranty has amounted to a couple hundred dollars on my Dodges.

I had one factory lift pump and one oil pressure sender replaced under warranty on my '01. That's it. I put 325,000 miles on that truck and it is still in the family. I put 230,000 on an '06. Zero warranty claims. I took my '08 back to the dealer last fall for a check engine light but my dealer is 300 miles away and I hooked up and pulled my heavy fiver planning to spend a couple of nights at the nearby city-owned RV park. Before I got to the dealer the CEL was gone and has never returned. I think a period of slow driving around town caused the light and a towing trip cured it.

I think all new Ram owners should worry about other things. Our warranties shouldn't concern us at least for now.

not knowing the whole situation myself, only a few facts if you call news and the paper facts,,,, and that it is my ownfault, Bush and Obama gave money to a company that is now in default. not withstanding the money the financial sector got and thrown into the toilet,,,,, imo.

what did that money the car companys got do? delay filing

all parties (union, nonunion and management and the exicutives) involved would need to work on reducing costs to the company. unfoutunelatly this is when pay and benifits come up being a major part of cost to a company. yea it sucks but for a company to survive things have to have. what is better,, not reaching a compromise and have the company fail and have nothing at all or reducing cost and taking a hit till better times come round and still getting paid with some benifits and still have a job... ... ..... luckly the place i work for has not laid off any firemen, but the city did lay off 5 positions and did not fill vacaent ones... . the city is already asking for neigoiations on the pension to save money for the next few yrs, the pd is also being asked also... ... ... hard times mean hard choices what are people will to do to keep the things going, in the end we will survive, we might be doing differnent things but everything will work out, ask our elders they are still here.

Hakuna Matata!

HBARLOW,
Thanks for your explanation as I am new to it all. I feel better now. You are right about the quality. Only problems I have had was the DPF not working right with chimes EVIC alerts, etc. One computer flash fixed that. But Im not even close to being broke in compared to the mileage you quote. Thanks again. Good explanation for sure.

I'm liking this thread much better now. Great points of view now being expressed. Ran into an interesting statement in a newpaper today.

AIG CONTRACT GOOD, UNION CONTRACT BAD.

If you break the contract of a union worker who puts door handles

on Chevys and force the workers to take lower wages and

benefits, conservative lawmakers and pundits applaud and call it good

for the economy. But try to take back Bonuses of AIG executives who

helped torch the economy and many of the same corporate apolgists

(people who help each other) scream about the sanctity of executive employment contracts.

Sounds alot like, I guess, it's who you are that controls what you think. #@$%!

Looks to me like the dumbest thing the UAW and it's members could have risked their pension $$$ on!

IF the UAW in Chrysler board meetings votes successfully to cut ANY operation to produce profits, the membership will stupidly rant and rave about being "sold out" by their union - but if the UAW stonewalls on cutting inefficient operations to maintain worker's pay or benefits - they and Chrysler stand to lose EVERYTHING!

Looks like a likely wake-up call for the UAW and members, and a potential lose/lose situation to me...

I don't expect it to last for very long, being propped up by a Banana republic Gov. and a car company that has the worst vehicles ever known to mankind. And then there's the UAW, giving themselves raises for every truck/car they sell with unlimited benefits for life when they retire, at full pay as well.

I was hoping the Obama team would leave them alone and let the Company just go into chapter 11 unmolested, that way they could reorganize themselves without Obama dictating terms to save the UAW, that caused the problems in the first place. Its not a big surprize that the leftest media never mentions this.

Its not the latest economy woes that caused their failure, but the expensive labor and retirement not allowing them to to build a surplus for just such an emergency. I have a great analogy that can explain it, a Damn holding back water and releasing it only when necessary. Like we have here the South West, Lake Powell holds back the water to Lake Mead that serves a large population with energy and water, when the environmentalists sued the feds to release water that they claimed was killing the Grand Canyon due to the lack of a 100 year flood. They released millions of acre-feet of water to simulate the 100 year flood 10 years ago and now that were in a drought, Lake Mead is 100 feet below normal and the feds are threatening to cutback power and water as a precaution.

Don't expect them to survive, and if they do, its not going to be the same. I'm just glad I have two 3rd gen trucks that will last long enough that Ford will have the Cummins in a light duty truck by then. I know, it is hard for me to say it, but I'm not going to buy a GM with the D/A.

Just be thankful their is a large aftermarket demand for Cummins in the light duty truck version, so we can extend the lives of our trucks farther than the 500K mile expected life spans
I still stand behind what I said, but I will clairify that when I mention the UAW it is meant as a whole. I'm sure there are many decent people effected by this, that needed to work and feed thier famillies, and is the reason some States have "the right to work" laws. The union bosses are the main culprits, but a majority voted on the contracts that ultimately chocked Chrysler. I have been saying for years that the unions will bankrupt them.

well you should remember that it was not Obama that was in office when thet got there money it was George w Bush so lets try to remember that HE did not give them money

he said you need to have a plane before you get any more money not the same old

sh__ that got you here. And now that there in bankruptcy lets see if they can poll it off or not. One thing you have got to do is make a quality car that people will buy and not a

pice of sh__ like chrysler has done with most of its cars. And if most of the people now

feel like you and will not buy a chrysler or gm then we all will be driving fords

NOW THATS A HAPPY TOUGHT.
Yes, the Bush administration gave them the loan in late Dec early Jan, but if you think Obama was against it your wrong, they were working together at the time to help the industry. With that being said, I was disappointed in the Bush administration in the last days, but to take it beyond just a bridge loan and start to dictate to the auto companies how to run them, that is Socialism. Chrysler would of survived under a chapter 11 reorganization of loans and also get rid of the Union contracts. That is why the Obama administration is tinkering with them, to save the unions. We as a whole have a lot to worry about this trend, there is more to come, just wait and see.

I saw the banks failing and moved my money so all of it was FDIC insured, one year before they started to fail. A bank officer from Bank of America told me I was paranoid and when the stock market was at 14K and I moved my mutual funds into a safe account, the representative told me I was paranoid. My latest prediction, that Obama is going to turn this country into a socialist system, is happening today. Now I know I cant prove to you that I predicted any thing that I have said regarding my predictions, but they have happened and you better take stock, no pun intended. BTW, all of my retirement money is in my control because it was saved without the unions involvement were the auto industry can't say the same and is why the UAW now wants to sell their 55% to whoever will take the risk with Chrysler to fund their bankrupt retirement system.

Didn't the UAW already say they will sell all of their shares to fund their concerns? They said they are not interested in owning an auto company. Kinda makes me wonder why. Well... not really.

Yes the UAW does want to sell their 55% interest. I don't believe they ever wanted it in the first place, but may have been forced into buying it until a more suitable inverter comes along.

Here's how to fix the auto industry

Patriotic Retirement - This Would Work:

I'm ready to do my Patriotic Duty and retire for the economic health of our country!!!

I love this plan! This was an article from the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?" I thought this was the BEST idea. This guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President,

Patriotic retirement:

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $2 million each severance with stipulations:

1) They leave their jobs. This creates 40 million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They buy NEW American cars. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage- Housing Crisis fixed.

Total cost, less than half of what AIG already threw away.

Someone's math is off a bit - 40 million people * $2 million each comes out to $80 trillion. Unless I've missed some news they haven't burned through THAT much money YET.

Cummins employee

I work at Cummins. The company just shut down the plant that makes the engines for the Dodge HD. That is 600 plus out of work. The B engine help make Dodge a great truck. I sure hope it comes back. What ever and who ever the caused the problems it is still a very sad time for many people. I am not out of work yet and I am still proudly driving my Dodge Cummins.

I'm still proudly driving and enjoying mine everyday also but the more I hear about the new socialist government the more concerned I become for our future. This is a government that believes deeply in the same principles as the former USSR.
