THe missionary I was with offered to get me into one to see it, but I was too scared. I just got the credit cards paid off, could you imagine a grand with a cummins 3. 9???

I decided to stay away for my financial health! LOL

For Europe and other diesel markets, the all-new Dodge Caliber will also be available with an advanced 2. 0-liter turbo diesel. “The new 2. 0-liter turbo diesel engine will dramatically enhance the Dodge Caliber’s appeal in Europe and other key diesel markets around the world,” said Ridenour. “In today’s competitive environment, customers are looking for modern diesel engines with outstanding performance and efficiency. We strongly believe we are prepared to meet that demand with our first diesel offering for a C-segment Dodge. ”



The 2. 0-liter engine is a state-of-the-art, direct-injection turbo diesel with high-pressure fuel injection, a variable geometry turbocharger and four valves per cylinder. The injectors are electronically controlled, allowing precise management of each combustion cycle with the optimum quantity of fuel. This system can operate at pressures of up to 2000 bar, leading to finer atomization of fuel, high power and torque, and optimal fuel efficiency. The turbo diesel engine is expected to position Dodge Caliber among the best in its class for power, torque and towing capacity. Maximum power is estimated at 100 kW (136 hp DIN), and peak torque is estimated at 310 Nm (229 lb. -ft. ).

The rumors I keep hearing are when we get the same fuel (ULSD) as the rest of the world, we will get the same diesel choices as the rest of the world. Our fuel is too "dirty" (too much sulpher) to run in the new "clean burn" diesel engines with their emission control devices. I look forward to it happening and it can't happen soon enough. We need a little truck with a diesel to replace our S-10 gasser at the shop! It is our only non-diesel company vehicle.

Come 2007 to 2008 we should see several new models intorduced with diesel engines, It will just be interesting to see how fuelefficient they will be with the new emissions regs.

The latest issue of Automotive News has a short article on GMs next iteration of their design/engineering system. They're going to have what amounts to a "supreme court" that will govern all design/engineering decisions to enforce commonality on their "common" platforms. For real this time.



Anyway, one of the results is supposed to be the ability to swap different engines into any vehicle built on the same platform. They specifically mentioned being able to swap in diesel engines for the US market.



Indeed, we will likely see a big surge in diesel options here for the 2007-up model year.

I rode in it, it's an awesome ride. Didn't drive it though, for fear that I'd fall in love, & get locked up for trying to sneak it out of the country with me! LOL

I'm assuming you did a conversion to your Polaris quad. I (apparently like you) want to move as much of my fleet as possible to diesel. Do you have any information about the engine swap? I'm all ears (er, eyes)...



FWIW, I guess you've heard of www.m1030.com Bulldog, civilian version of diesel powered KLR650 for the USMC. Expected to hit the civilian market March 06

From early 1998-2001, Polaris made a variant of the Sportsman that was diesel powered. It has a 455 cc single cylinder, direct injection water cooled engine, built by Fuji Heavy Industries. Besides the engine and clutching, many of the components are shared with the gas Sportsman.

The Sportsman Polaris is original, as Rescur Ram mentioned. As for conversion, I have a 14 horse inline 2-cylinder liquid cooled Kubota engine that is just begging for golf cart or ATV use! (Along with a 6. 5 horse air cooled Yanmar with log splitter plans and a 8 horse air cooled Acme planned for a rear tine tiller!)

The Polaris Diesel was a great idea, with no marketing and bad timing of introduction. If they were to offer the same machine again, I guarantee it would sell. Rumors I keep hearing are that Arctic Cat is to offer a diesel ATV. Checked at the local Arctic Cat dealer, they called the factory and knew nothing of it... .
