Does anyone know if the CIPA mirrors have the "detent" in the same place between the driver and passenger side. My passenger side mirror is folded in closer toward the truck in its "normoal" position. I am wondering if it is a manufacturing mistake or if it is supposed to be that way. Seems strange to me.

Thanks,

Craig

I have Bestop towing mirrors (which appear to be identical to the Cipa's) and just measured the passenger side to be 2" farther back at the tip of the mirror.

Yes, that's how mine are too. Have any of you noticed the mirror bouncing around??? (not the housing) Sometimes I can't tell what brand vehicles are behind me they shake so much. Seems to be a lot of slop in the motors, at least on my driver side. I called CIPA and they sent me a tool claimng that they had an install problem and I needed to re-seat the mirror. I did so and it did not change a thing.

Bestop

Mine have always bounced some, the passenger side more than the drivers. Recently it has gotten alot worse... . anyone out there have a "fix" for this???

One thing I have been told to try is to tack my bug deflector off. There was an older TSB for bug deflectors and stock mirrors. Since mine is put on with double sided tape, I have not tried this yet. Those who are having problems, do you have a deflector????

I might put a call into CIPA next week.

Thanks

No bug deflector

I would like to get a contact number or email address for CiPa... This needs to be addressed. .

Made Contact

Well I finally called CIPA and they referred me to the "Actual" manufacturer. I talked to one of the tech guys and he informed me that they have been doing some testing with different vehicles and the Dodge makes the mirror surfaces rattle the most, especially when bug deflectors are installed.

Also. . there are supposed to be some type of dampeners behind the mirror. Mine don't have them. The manufacturer is going to send me replacement mirror backings with the dampeners and new mirror glass. He says to mount the backing first and make sure the Tabs are all seated, then stick the mirror surface to the backing. For the most part, it sounds like the dampeners are missing or were never on my mirrors since I have an early set. There was a change of ownership as well for the manufacturer sometime back. When I get the new parts, I will install them and let you know how they work..... This guy claims he will fix every set that is defective under warranty. I informed him that we belong to a large club and there could be many returns. He said it would not be a problem.

Can you provide me with his name and number?

I have had mine for a couple of years now and the vibration is progressively getting worse.

Will he send the repair kit or do we have to send the mirrors back to him? I can just see taking these things off and then being stuck for a month or so with no mirrors while they are being warrantied!

Name

He is sending me new ones, I don't have to send my old ones back. I left his info at home. give me a few hours and I will post the contact info.

The dampers are tabs that contact the mirror housing and stabilize the glass panel. The story I got was that the early mirrors had them, then they were removed because of complaints about lack of adjustability/travel, and now the tabs are back to prevent/reduce vibration.

Thanks Ramon, I will contact Terry tommorrow

Which ones??

Brian,

So do you have the dampeners then?? Do they restrict travel??

sometimes I point the curb side way down to see the curb when I park the trailer and sometimes I point them way up when threading the needle at campgrounds... observing the tree clearance on the upper portion of the trailer.

thanks

Dave... let us know how it goes with Terry.

I have the finger tabs (dampers) on and they solved the vibration problem on the driver side but the passenger still shakes a bit. When I got the replacement glass with tabs they weren't packed very well and the tabs had been bent and taken a set so they didn't have as much preload against the housing. I have no trouble adjusting the mirrors to see the rear wheels on my truck or the top/rear corner of the 36ft 5th wheel.
