I'm carrying a slide in and will be useing a long extension. Has anyone had experience with the Reese Titan vs. the Torque lift class V extensions?

I know the Torque lift can handle sig. more weight with a weight dist. hitch, but I won't be able to use one since I am renting a trailer with surge brakes.

Thanks!

I've been checking this out too...

From what I can find out, the Titan V is a 2. 5 in.

size hitch. There have been reports of side to side sway issues, and bending of the hitch.

The Torque Lift class 5 is an over-under double 2 in. set up. Haven't heard of any issues with this setup yet.

Remember that you'll have to be REAL careful crossing gutters with these longer extensions, or you'll be dragging your tail and ripping something off. :{

I've been using the Titan since '96 to haul my boat with the camper in the bed. Works great and i can't find anything to complain about as far as quality goes. What you'll notice is a strange "push" from the trailer when braking on a turn. Takes a little getting used to but not bad. I'd strongly suggest following the weight limits of which ever brand you buy. Think about the leverage they can apply during braking turns and you'll see why the load limits are substantially reduced.

I've had them both, started with a Titan V which I was very happy with. The reason I switched to a torklift was so I could install their camper tiedowns as well. I did like the fact that you could have 24, 36, or 41" extension with the Titan, the torklift is only the one size you buy it with. I have several different trailers with various length tongues so I would always use the shortest I could with the Titan. The torklift I bought was 36" seems to work good all around, but it would be nice to have it shorter with some of my trailers. Too expensive to buy another extension in my opinion. The Torklift is quite abit pricier, but it is a stouter unit and rated higher. I pulled a 6,000lb enclosed snowmobile trailer behind my camper with the Titan in some EXTREME crosswinds. I didn't have a weight dist. hitch, but I was using a sway bar. No problems whatsoever. I haven't towed any serious weight with the Torklift yet, I'm sure it will do great.

To sum it up, they are both great units, I think the torklift is ultimately stronger if you need serious capacity but it's quite abit more money than the Titan.

I've got a Titan V hitch with extension for sale if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the input... . this is very valuable! I haven't towed with an extension and never thought of the sideways "push" the trailer is applying to you as you turn and slow at the same time - interesting!

Powder Extreme, I don't really see the huge price differential between the two hitches, though... . (unless I am getting screwed on one or getting a great deal on the other! ;) ) I am seeing roughly a $125 price difference - which is nothing when safety is concerned... . but if I don't need it, I'd rather not carry around all the extra weight of the torque-lift... .

Thanks for the input - I may go with the torque-lift after all... hmmmmmm... ... .

I have used the Titan for years and love it. When I had a 10. 5 ft camper and pulled my horse trailer it performed excellent (I downsized to a new 8 ft Lance for weight savings). I would not trust anything less than the Titan and believe it to be the only hitch a guy would need. :D :D
