Bosch Purolator oil filter failure.

2 stroke Oil

Here is what my oil looks like after 1500 miles, mostly towing heavy. I have never seen it stay this clean before. Don't know if its the oil (Lucas Magnum High TBN 15-40) or something else. Also not saying that this is good or bad, just interesting that it stays this clean.

That's actually amazing!! Is it the first time that you are running the Lucas??

Yes, I just found the Lucas at O'Rileys and decided to give it a try, first oil change with it. I KNOW that it is CI formula bit I also KNOW my exhaust is safe from contamination.

After I dropped the EGR and the exhaust my first oil change looked like before, black.
Now after 3,000 miles, clean and clear, using Rotella. Finally cleaned out all the
left over soot.

or the oil is incapable of suspending it like it should.

That is mine concern with LE CJ-4 oils. Put it in my B150's in the boat and it stays honey colored. CI-4+ is becoming very hard to find and cost a lot more now. After years with Delo 400 in 4 Cummins, I have thrown in the towel and switched to Shell Rotella T. I can just call it my golden years. Snoking

The additive package in CJ4 oils are much more capable of holding soot in suspension and neutralizing acids than CI-4+ oils. CI4+ oils would never pass the tests required to achieve the CJ rating, yet the CJ-4 spec meets every requirement of the CI-4 oil.

CJ oil has a lower TBN so it WILL NOT neutralize acids as well. I don't know where you got you info but it is not accurate

Between in cylinder EGR and the post injection event to burn the soot out of the dpf the oil in 07.5+ engines tends to see more fuel dilution and soot than previous engines that did not even so much as have EGR (in the case of the 5.9 Cummins). It is the additive package in CJ4 oils that neutralizes the acids not just the TBN, and CI4+ oils would not meet the more severe standards of CJ4 oils. That is fact, not opinion. Farm and construction equipment, highway engines, marine engines, and generation equipment in pre-emission platforms collectively run hundreds of millions of hours every year.Where are all the oil related failures? The sky is not falling guys, it's safe to come outside ;)

I have never understood this blackened oil thing. My 01 stays clean for thousands of miles, my wife's libby CRD also clean for a while (egr, CCV, etc, deleted. My 06 - black as night after 30 seconds of running (literally). The 06 has all the emissions, except the piston crowns and turbine housing, removed (no third infection event, proper cam, etc.). Still, black oil. ( I am back to the stock turbo now as the top turbo in my twins, I had a GT3782 prior to that and it didn't make any difference.) I used to drive a' 82 Chevy 6.2 and it would turn the oil black as a few seconds of running. That was a naturally aspirated and NO emissions. I can't explain this at all. I know it's nothing to worry about, but it is a curiosity that I would love to know the reason. I do find the clean looking oil very reassuring however.
