Hello all,

I was at the local Dodge dealer and it was determined that I have a 'cracked' clockspring. I did not encounter any problems with this before, however, after I had the steering wheel wiring harness replaced (recall... ), everytime I turned the wheel it would feel like everything in the column was getting ripped apart.

Low and behold, Dodge has now indicated that it was due to a cracked clockspring. Funny that it did not do it before the recall. Maybe the mechanic broke the clock spring when he did the wiring???

Has anyone ever had this problem with the clockspring or the wiring harness???

Probably. When you pull the wheel off, if you let the shaft rotate it will break it, but if it was attached to your steering box i wouldn't think that it would allow it to turn that far, who knows.

there was a recall on the clockspring. . they re-designed it. I'm on my 3rd... the latest one is the "new" design... hope it lasts.

I had mine changed on the recall. On the way home stopped for fuel and almost took out the pump when my steering locked up. Had the truck towed back and they said it would be a week before I got it back! They said they could not remove the broken and let me take the truck for the week. After a venting session with the owner of the stealership I got it fixed the same day. If you take a truck in for the repair make sure they have the parts on the shelf first.
