I know that this has been discussed the past few days, and Tom Golden in particular just had his replaced last week. So when I got home this afternoon, there was a phone message to bring my truck in for a clockspring inspection/recall. So I guess that this has now been upgraded to a recall. I was told it affects Durangos, Dakotas and Rams. Don't have the specific numbers though. My ETH was built in september of 2000.

My clock spring went out 5 days ago with a resounding crunch when I was turning the wheel to park. Dropped it off at the dealer for repair and the guy told me one customer has been back 3 times for the same clock spring going out. They didn't have one in stock to repair mine as it was the same day as the recall and they said all of them were sucked up so my advice to you is if yours does go out, make sure they have one in stock to put in before you waste your time like I did. For those of you who don't know what the symptoms are, my let out a crunching sound out of the steering column/ steering wheel joint then my air bag light came on and my cruise control quit working. This has been the only problem I have had with my truck so I am still very happy with my truck.

Mine went out at a couple of months ago. Does anyone know, does the recall include an improved design that won't go out again? I would think it should, but, then if it does maybe I already have the "new improved" design.

clockspring

Lost mine last Saturday. Airbag lite is on and no cruise. Trying to get time to get into a dealer. Never got a recall notice. :eek:Leaving next week for a two month trip up to Montana and Wyoming hope I can this fixed in time.

Got my notice today... ... Do not want to get "Re-flashed" what do we do to prevent it?

Hey, Medicummin did you get your notice also? Is crown Dodge our only option?

Just got my recall notice in the mail. Waiting to hear back from the dealer on my appointment. Does anybody know if they have to use the diagnostic port to fix this problem? if not, i am putting one of those big padlocks around it so they dont re flash me. If they DO need the port, how do i make sure they dont Re-flash?

Which trucks?

Does anyone know which trucks are affected by this? Everyone complaining has a 2001... some built around the same time as mine. I still haven't gotten a notice, but sometimes mail from DC comes to my old address.

Thanks Thomas, I received my notice in the mail today. Funny thing I stopped by the dealer looking at the accessories book and even talked with my service rep, nothing mentioned. He was too busy looking at everything I did to the Ram since he last seen it.

I'm lucky so far and my clock spring is fine, but the chick I spoke with at the Dealership said that all Clock Springs have been sucked up by the recall and there is a limited supply. Since I was not able to get it in this week due to a vacation and the fact that I got a Demo EZ from HVAC on the truck that I want to try for a week and I don't want the dealer to know, I was told to check back with her after I returned and that it might take awhile to get a clock spring for my truck. So I'm willing to wait a while, especially to let you guys with the broken ones have a chance to get yours fixed first.

Got my notice today too. Not in a big rush to get it fixed. Hasn't been back to the dealer yet, don't want to start.

Well I have the dreaded G in the 11th position of the VIN so I will be taking my baby in to the dealer in the morning. I am the only driver and I have not heard any clunking in the steering and Last time I used my CC it worked. :(

So far the dealer here has been fair and supports us Diesel Heads.

I recieved my baby in Oct 2000.

Good luck to all.

See Ya

I got the recall today for the clock spring. Here is my problem about the recall. First when I bought the truck last July the air bag light and chime would go off when turning after only owning it for 2 weeks. Dealer replaced under warranty. Since that time have put in the Turbo Llife Saver and would'nt you know Gino's instructions say be care don't break tabs on the big honker of a plug. Well I did break one  and when I reconnect the turbo life saver in it was tight but to make sure it won't come apart no way I used a big wire tie to keep plug pulled together.

Now the question do I have a warranty problem if I take it in and they see the turbo life saver let alone the plug? :( The life saver should be a good thing but with DC I am afraid they will try and void warrantly and at least not change clock spring. Besides maybe I should not get it done as it already was done last July but not under recall. :D I wonder if then they put in the improved clock spring. Does anybody know if that is possible?

Thanks for the help:confused:

DOH!!! Just got my recall notice today, at least it's one of the few remaining parts of the truck I didn't void the warranty on :D
