ETH is the high output engine.

DEE is the six spd transmission.

I don't know if you are included in the recall, but my dad owns a 2001. 5, auto, and he is.

RKHebert,

There is no such thing as a 2001. 5. We made up that term here so we know what kind of truck it is. See,the early 2001 trucks have rear drum brakes, and the late 2001 trucks have rear disc brakes. To keep things easy for us on this site we came up with the term "2001. 5"soo we know what kind of truck an owner is talking about.

Same thing for 1998. The early trucks still had 12 valve engines while the late ones had 24 valve engines... "98. 5".

These terms only exist here. Your dealer won't have a clue what they mean.

Unless you dealer is a TDR member? The dealer i called about the repair mentioned the TDR to me saying "if you have any questions go to this website called turbo diesel register" Pretty strange when you DEALER is telling you to ge here

Clock Spring

Hello all, got my recall last friday and my rattler is at the dealer now for replacement. BTW, is this something like a slip ring type contact under the steering wheel?

Getting mine fixed today

My clockspring broke two weeks ago and I'm getting it replaced today. I also asked the dealer if they had been re-designed and the service manager said they had been. Supposedly the one they are installing today is the new re-designed part. I'll ask to see the old one and the new one so I can compare the design and the part numbers. I'll post what I find out tomorrow.

Clock Spring

Back again... . Took my truck in this morning at 7, was done at noon. All is good. Great new dealership in Folsom: Folsom Lake Dodge. *****.

This is for Rob Hanson: the part number listed on the invoice today says: part # 56045455AG. I don't know if this # is different than before but maybe someone else has the "old" clock spring part #.

To all those asking "is my truck included in the recall?",

Thanks to Fritz for keeping an excellent page!

Mongoose: To my knowledge, Hagan's has never tried to "reflash" me during visits. I confess, I haven't looked for stickers, but, I have not seen any performance difference following visits so I feel pretty good they didn't do anything. So far, I've been in three times, twice for the clockspring (broke once, + recall). I think they are pretty straight-up guys; if you tell them you don't want a reflash, I think they would honor your wishes or at least discuss it with you if a reflash was necessary due to a specific problem you were experiencing.

I made my appointment with the dealer 2 days ago. I gave them all the info they needed on my truck. They told me bring it in first thing today. I woke up at 6:30, drove to the dealer and waited for them to open. I did all the paperwork, then waited about an hour, then they said "We have a problem, they sent the Clock spring for your wifes Duarango, not your Ram" What the hell? I am not married, nor do i own a Durango. Regardless, i ended wasting my morning for NOTHING. This dealer was not a 5 star dealer and i know why!. Now i have to wait AGAIN for them to take care of this.

I got all cranked up over the possible re-flash issue as well. I took out the EZ, High Idler and turnbuckle etc, went to the dealer, Showed them the recall and they said, "the parts are in stock,When would you like to do it? Is tomorrow morning first thing ok"? I arrived @ the appointed 7:30 hour, Hopped in the line as about the 6th or 7th person and when I spoke to the service writer and expressed my concerns on the re-flash business, he looked at me like I had two heads and said, "why would we re-flash your computer to fix the clockspring"? I then told him of the horror stories of the across-the-board re-flashes and he said they never do that routinely and never without the customers knowledge. Ok by me! Anyway, 20 minute wait for the truck to go in, and 45 minutes later, I'm on my way. They probably never opened the hood, oh well.....

Clockspring replaced

I had my Clockspring replaced yesterday, took about 1 1/2 hrs. The dealer said that it is the new re-designed part, there are three new part numbers depending on what options you have in the steering wheel. The part number that I got was 1-56045456AG (this was the same number as the old one except the last letter was a "E", which I think is the revision letter), I have cruise, radio controls, airbag and horn. The number that "Duraque" gave above might be the new one for a different set of options. Anyway, everything works again.

HC, thanks for the vote of confidence. Had my lift pump replaced there yesterday. Asked the service manager about the reflash and he said that they don't routinely do it. They did say that they could not do the hitch recall because it did not show up in the computer that my truck needed it. Stupid me forgot to take my print out showing that my truck should be covered under the recall though.

Another question: The MDH that is referred to in the clock spring recall. I understand that it stands for "Month, Day Hour", is this correct? If so is this information the last digits of the vin number or is it listed elsewhere?

I just heard about this on TV yesterday, but have heard nothing from DC. My trcuck has the "G" in the 11th position, but the recall notice also mentions a range of "MDH's" involved. What does that mean? Is it referring to the last 6 digits of the VIN number? I hope so, since mine is just outside of the range involved in that case.

EMDDIESEL,

They probably sent the clockspring for my wife's Durango by mistake! ;)

Called earlier this week and made the appointment to get my clock spring replaced (safety recall). Talked to parts guy and asked if he had one and he said yes I said hold it for Friday (today) and they did. Took in this morning and they changed it took about 1 hour for them to do it. Just in time to as starting last week the Air Bag light kept coming on everytime I turned. Teh week before that it woudl come on occasionally. I had it replace when almost new 3,000 miles under warranty. Hope this one last longer it has 17,900 now.
