My cluch sliped yesterday pretty bad. It sliped all the way through 3rd,4th,5th. I'm pretty hard my my truck I guess (used to drive a 400hp camaro)

I was at a red light and reved it up to about 2200RPM in 3rd gear and dumped the cluch. It worked great once before for getting a quicker launch since I have 4:10's and useally have to upshift to 3rd right away. This time it sliped and smelt burnt. Later on that day I had a 3rd passanger riding up front w/ me and had to shift from 1st to 3rd since they were in the way of the shifter and I got that burnt cluch smell again. Tonight I did the same 2200RPM dump into 3rd and it happened all over again.

I'm stock with an EZ

I need to know how many more miles do I have left on my cluch?

If its covered under warentee?

If not should I get a South Bend Cluch and wich one?

Thanks

BigDan

BigDan, the 6 speeds are notorious for slipping with added power. With an EZ+ 2200 rpm+ 3rd= slipping clutch. Be nice to it for a while and see if it stops. I am one of the few people I've heard of that has a stock clutch that can handle a Comp. Last night it slipped a couple of times in 6th. I took it easy on it for a while, now it's holding again. That's the first time it's done it in over a month. The Comp was only hooked up a week or two before the last time it slipped. I'm not surprised your's slipped with that kind of start. It should'nt slip with "normal" driving though.

As for South Bends. I was looking at the con ofe, but I think I will get the con fe instead. It can handle more power and is a non-organic material. Some say it chatters some, and others don't have any chattering. I'm going to give the fe a shot.

BigDan take the EZ off and have your clutch replaced under the warranty it has a 12,000 mile warranty on it .

My clutch started slipping at 11,000 miles and it got replaced for free.

Now at 35,000 miles it's slipping again :{

This time I will get a SBC

Good Luck

It's funny how some clutches hold up better than others.

On my '01 HO I had DD2s and van Aaken box and my clutch held fine for 10,000+ miles after the upgrade, even towing and using all that power. That combo was good for 355hp/780ish Torque (don't recall torque exactly).

I finally slipped it at 55K after doing a 3rd gear launch. . . it held for the launch but when I tried a quick upshift to 4th to keep the tires roasting, I roasted the clutch instead

I now have a Southbend :)

Big D,

Your clutch will slip even completely stock with a high rev 3rd gear start. I could slip mine stock trying that, but that doesnt mean ur clutch is toast. I later installed a comp & ran it at 5/5 all the time even towing & IT NEVER SLIPED, no mater how hard I pushed it, even towing.

Since then I replaced it with a SBC fe & added dd3's. I know how many people on here that have had great success with the sbc, but I can still slip it with a 3rd gear start with high revs. The sbc doesnt slip at all other then trying that, although I was able to slip it towing with the box on 3/5.

Those are my findings, but I am not sure that is the norm.

When I pulled my stocker, I did not have any real hot spots or unusal wear patterns. I am afraid to pull it again to see what the fly wheel looks like now after the sbc & some serious slippage on the flywheel, but I am still holding ok.

6-speed, edge pulse, grossing over 23000 towing or gouging on it empty, no slipping with the stock clutch. truck has40,000 on it

Once a clutch begins to slip it is pretty much all over. I had my 6 speed (early 6 speed with 5 speed clutch) start slipping with DD2's and PE comp, and it just got worse and worse. Not much you can do once it starts slipping, except start saving up for a SBC or some other aftermarket brand.

Correct me if I am wrong. But shouldnt the honest thing be to leave the EZ box on and then try to get it replaced?? The extra power, and the dumping of the clutch is what led to its early retirement. Being dishonest only hurts all of us. Especially when DC reads what we write. It is no wonder they are so strict about mods as of late. Remember, "You are your own warranty station" when you bump the power or do mods like that.

Yea, mine lasted a whole 5 minutes after adding stage 2 injectors and an EZ. I tried to baby it for a while (about a month). I was only making 317hp / 780 trq. Those of you who have managed to upgrade the power and keep the stock clutch, count yourself lucky.

I replaced it with a ceramic setup, and have only managed to slip it once while drag racing... But that's a different story :p.
