I have a 1998 4x4 5 speed, and when i pull into a parking spot and turn the wheel real hard I get a clunk. It clunks to the right and the left, but not all the time.

My truck did the same thing and it ended up being the track bar where the bolt goes threw on the passenger side of axle i have read where you can buy just the bushing i replace the whole track bar. Hope this helps Jason

This is a common problem. I've never had it myself, so I haven't read up on it. You might try searching for clunk, steering clunk, or something like that.

Somebody who knows, help this guy.

Dangit... .

I replaced my trackbar w/ one from DT and now I have the clunk.

I need to climb underneath with someone turning the wheel.

Anybody have any other ideas what it could be? Ball-joints maybe?

Josh

The clunk the track bar makes, I am wondering where the clunk is coming from.

After driving for about 600 miles with the new track bar the clunk is back.

Not sure what to do.

I crawled under the truck and the track bar has way more up and down movement now. Time to go to Napa and get another track bar.

DT clunk

Snowracer, I had a clunk in mine about 3 months after installing DT. I was ripped that it had failed already. When I slid under and had my son turn the wheel I noticed the axle end bolt was coming loose. I tightened and two years later all is right and tight with my trackbar.

Check ALL the bolts for tightness. The only way I have found to diagnose loose clunking stuff is to lie under the truck (leave running) and have somebody turn the wheel. You can't put enough pressure on the components by hand to find anything loose.

Groover,

Thanks for the info, and will try that again. I had my roommate saw my wheel lock-to-lock for about 10 minutes and I wasn't able to find the source of the clunk, as there was no noise or noticeable movement. I will try it again though, and pay particular attention to what you've said.

Thanks, Josh
