Trans shop in San Diego

2 thumbs way up for PDR!!

Posting this for a buddy of mine. He has a 1995 2500 and had a South Bend clutch installed by a local shop.

The clutch is rated for 400 HP 900 torque. You need to start out in 1st gear to avoid any chattering. If he starts in 2nd gear he needs to give it some throttle and feather the clutch slowly to avoid any shaking.

After discussing this with with other friends it is felt this is not right, maybe a bad install, oil on clutch or what have you.

Any transmission guys out there that can help with any suggestions?? What do you think is the problem here?

Clutch

On my third stock clutch. Let clutch out in 2nd without trailer no problem is pretty normal. With trailer 1st gear let out at idle speed no problem. Just something to compare to.

Sounds normal for that clutch. My OFE has acted the same way since I put it in 4 years ago. It has to be "stickier" to hold that extra torque, so you can't expect it to behave like a stocker.

I thought it was the nature of the beast. Any other comments will help... .

Interesting to read this post. I had a con O put in the 98. It chatters. I can hardly believe that the disk is organic. Not really happy with it. I haven't hooked up to the 5th wheel yet.

Yup, My OFE is kinda the same way.

I can drive it almost like the stock clutch after some practice, but at first it was a bit jerky.

Parking the Travel trailer at some campgrounds requires 4LO now.
