I have 103,000 on my 5 speed and just recently I have had a problem with getting the shifter into gear. It doesn’t engage smoothly and takes a couple of tries. Going into reverse is really hard. Is there a South Bend in my future??? Does anyone know who installs them on the western slope of Colorado, hopefully around Glenwood Springs to Junction?

Thanks

Peter

Sounds like a possible pilot bearing problem.

At around 90k mine got gradually harder & harder to shift, to the point where 1st or reverse were almost impossible to get in gear at a stop, and felt like the syncros were not working between gears.

The clutch was worn but still ok, but pilot was freezing up.

Replaced clutch & bearings - Shifts ok again.

This is just one possibility, but thought I'd through my experience out here for some input.

Some people will say check & change transmission oil, but unless its dangerously low, I doubt oil is the problem.

I do like the Southbend very much, but didnt like the price of getting it installed at the dealer. :--)
