I've started to have harder shifting in my '01 6spd (NV5600) with 120K miles. Specifically, it's hard get get into gear from a stand still. Once moving, shifting is easier. I've got a low mile SBC Con OFE and as fas as I know stock hydraulics. The transmission has had Amsoil in it since I got it (109K), but I'm not sure at all what it had before... . It was full though.

What is the procedure for testing the clutch hydraulics? How much travel should the slave cylinder have under load? Can you measure without removing the slave cylinder? If not, how do you load it when it's removed?

Has anyone had a similar problem that they fixed by installing new or upgraded hydraulics?

I have this same post in the 2nd Gen 24V forum, but I haven't had any replies.

BDaugherty,
I am currently having the same problem with my clutch/transmission. It was doing the same thing with the stock clutch, so I put in the Con OFE and it helped, but did not eliminate the problem. I still have the stock hydaulics. I will eventually upgrade to the adjustable hydraulics, but it won't be for a few more months.

My truck has always been like this. Lately it has become worse and shifting was becoming more akward. I just finished a complete South Bend CON OFE, new flywheel and hydraulics up grade yesterday. I have only had a chance for a short run around town with it. There is an improvement in all aspects but I need more driving time. There is also a break in period for this set up. The old throw out bearing was completely shot. The rest of the old clutch assembly was in excellent condition but I changed out everything as it is a lot of work. I think the problem of getting into the first gear may just be a characteristic of this transmission and the best thing is to live with it.

Slow Six,

How many miles do you have on your rig? I have an '03 NV5600 HO with 59,000 miles and have not had any problems yet.

Also you say your truck has always been like this. Are you the original owner?

Thanks,

Anthony

I've got about 150,000 miles on this truck and I am the original owner. I changed transmission to Redline MTL in the first year I had the truck and that improved shifting considerably. It's just the last while that shifting was not as nice as before but as mentioned earlier the throw out bearing was about to self destruct.

I had the stock clutch hydros go out at 79k. They do fail and Southbend has a nice upgrade for a couple hundred bucks. Currently running a 3250 dd and the clutch feel is lighter then stock.
