At the moment my clutch release is a bit close to the floorboard for my tastes. The transmission is a sometimes tough to get into second or reverse, I don't force it but would rather it just fall in as it should. I was wondering if there is a standard measurement the hydraulic system throws the clutch fork. The clutch doesn't slip but as stated releases to close to the floor, other than that it shifts smooth and fine. Your opinions please. Clutch, hydraulics or both. Thanks in advance.

clutch slave

I suspect the slave cyl. is leaking or has air in the system. check the fluid level and bleed the cyl... .

You might want to put power steering fluid in it instead of brake fluid... It is heavier and leaks out slower... . the slave cyl's go long before the master cyl's

I have made a few out of steel in years past. they last forever...

Can't seem to find info on bleeding our trucks. Two plastic units connected with plastic tube, no bleeder as I recall ?? What say you ? thanks Bill

Wjune,

The bleeder screw is on the front driver side of the slave. Its a metal screw in a plastic housing so be very very careful as it strips easily.

Dirtscience,

My truck had the exact same problem when i bought it. I tried bleading the system and striped the screw out so i bough a new slave. It still didn't fix the problem. After a lot of cussing and tinkering i discovered the where the rod from the master meets the pedal was worn soo much after 300,000 of use that there was enough play in it to cause the problem. What i ended up doing was cutting the rod, threading it and connecting the two sides with a union. THen i just adjusted it until there was not play and everything worked out great. Hope this helps.

Mine actually had a crack that when you depressed the clutch, part of the floor was moving where the linkage was ..... I just welded it. It still comes off sooner than I like, may have to do something like Motley did.

Good to see an old thread come back to life. After replacing mine with a new one it was no better. I had my wife push on the clutch while I watched the master cylinder. I could see it move from side to side quite a bit when she would push and release. Looking under the dash I discoverd as Git-R-Done did that my bracing had cracked. I built a couple of braces out of small angle iron and bolted it in. Its alot better now but I also may take the road the Motley did with the shaft mod. I like it.

99 deg upside down under a W250 dash with hot trouble light in face, how the H... . do you get that clip ? off clutch pedal. Can't see it, my braille isn't much good. Have play that needs to be taken out of the rod that pushs master.

Looked on both trucks plastic slaves. Only possible metal screw I find is a small rusty plug or allen ? in front of hyd. line. Is that what you fella's are bleeding with ? thanks to all who posted on this so far.

I have been haveing that problem for the last 5000 miles +-, I never woried about it because of lack of time. What I did find out was that the thrust washer from the flywheel side had fallen out and was allowing the crank to push far enoughf forward to cause the hard shifting. The trust came out while doing an oil change. Jon

WJune,

Ya... the clip is a real PIA. I think i ended up using a small neddle nose. The bleader screw is an allen. It is directly in front of the line that comes from the master. BE CAREFUL when bleeding.
