Have been getting an intermittant pop in the clutch pedal when pushing down to engage it. My foot can feel it too. Whats up?

I had a squeaky pedal about a year ago, a WD40 squirt fixed that. This is different though. Anybody had this issue?

This is the '99, 6 speed. Thanks.

Not trying to be a smarta$s, but check your floor mat! I had something similar to which you describe and it was the floor mat catching the clutch pedal at full throw.

Lordsman, I was just about to post the same problem. It only happens right when you put your foot on it. I can hear and feel it. It's only happened 2 times on the past week.

I just had a new Con Fe installed in my 6 speed and now I notice the same thing. I hear and feal my pop about the first 1/2 to 1 inch of the peddle when I push it down.

Well, I squirted a little WD40 on the moving parts off of the pedal under the dash. Went on a fishing trip up in the mountains for 2 days and no pop(350 miles). Got back home and its back, guess I'll start tracing it after I get the camper off.

Let me know if you guys find anything.

I know this may sound silly, but when my was popping, I just ignored it. Then one day at work I was pulling into a spot, I pushed in the clutch, and the pedal went to the floor. :--) Truck lurched forward and I had to shut it off to avoid from hitting another car. Where the rod from the master cylinder joins up to the clutch pedal has a little clip to hold it on. That clip broke and the rod fell off giving me no control of my clutch. So I would just check everything for safety sake.

Mines doing it also, not frequent enough that I remember to look at it once I get home. Guess I should check it out this weekend.

I checked my clip that holds that little rod on the peddle and mine looked and felt ok, not saying that there isn't nothing wrong with it but I can't see it at this point with the naked eye.

I had that same pop for several years. It felt like the ball on the end of the clutch rod had slipped into the socket when I first put my foot on the pedal. Well, that's exactly what was happening, there is a spring clip inside the bellhousing that holds the clutch rod to the fork and it was broken. That allowed a little slack at the end of the push rod and it would pop back into place when I pushed the clutch. The Dodge store was closed when I did my clutch so I wired it together and it pops no longer. Thanks to South Bend Clutch it also slips no longer.

Jetson, thanks for your input. I'll crawl under there and look over the clutch fork assembly. How do you like the VA and 275 combo, I only have the VA but also want to go with 275's someday. Is this why your clutch was slipping?

Oh no, I have to pull the transmission! :--)

I gave myself away-I'm no auto mechanic. ;)

I checked the clip like WShupe said, it's ok. So, I guess it'll have to wait.

The VA and 275's are a great combo. The clutch didn't slip until I added a fueling box that tapped the pump wire in addition to the VA. It didn't add additional timing like a lot of the new fueling boxes do.

I went several years with the clutch popping so I wouldn't worry about it, but if you push in the clutch and nothing happens, then you probably know the rod fell away from the clutch fork.
