While stopped at a light today I shifted into first and the truck started to move forward and I could not get it out of first. I then took off and pushed the clutch in a couple times and was then able to shift. After a couple more stops it was ok but then started to act up again.

After getting it into neutral and pumping the clutch a few times it was ok for awhile. The fluid is full, but never changed. 135,000 miles, 110,000 with an SD clutch.

Any help on what the problem may be woiuld be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

^^ x3.

Just like a brake master cylinder when it goes bad. No external leaks, just internal leakage that won't allow the hyd. pressure to keep from leaking down.

its hard to limp home 20 miles with bad hydraulics,, I was luck there was no traffic. I think it was about $100 from the dealer.

its an easy change out. if you have an upgraded clutch you may want the heavy duty hydraulics kit. OEM has been working with my OFE for 50k miles.

Hey thanks guys. Ended up the clutch master cylinder was bad, of course it comes as a Clutch Hydraulic Assenbly. All is well now though.

Thanks again,

Bill

Does not want to go into 1st or Rev

The 95 model has just gotten hard to get into 1st & Rev. Could this possibly be the same issue with the hydraulic system? I pumped it a few times but could not see that it made much difference, but it did seem to shift okay when I first started it for a few minutes.

Brent,

More details might help us. Did it happen suddenly or creep up on you, has the shifting quality degraded over time, or snap, no shifty?

The '95 5 speed needs about 1/2" minimum to 5/8" bearing travel, at the bearing, thats enough.

Hydraulic inspection/testing.

Pull boots back, look for fluid weeping.

Block the piston of the slave cylinder from stroking, (I use a steering gear or hub puller) press down on the pedal with you fingers, does it move more than 3/4" or so? not good. Increase the pressure slightly, does it drift down? not good.

Pilot bearings fail with service, when they do, they can jan in their housing and cause the shaft to continue to rotate, difficult shifting from a stop.

Clutch history?

The Truck had been sitting in the shop for a couple weeks without being driven, but I first noticed it over the weekend when I stopped at a Red Light 3 miles from my shop.

This truck is still on the Stock Clutch w/115,000 miles. Has several miles of pulling.

I added some fluid thinking it might be a little low, but not sure it has helped much.
