2002 6 Speed. Have decided on a Zoom Stage 1 clutch, $358. 99 at Summit Racing.

Does anybody have any experience with this clutch?

This is what I tow. It's about 25K lbs and 72 ft long.

On my '96 to change the auto trans, we had to spread the frame rails just a touch to get the rear bracket out. Do I have to do this to the '02.

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure that clutch is for your application? I don't see it on their website for your truck.

Be careful of the clutch disk hub, they are not created equal. They will advertise this awesome disk material that will handle more torque or a pressure plate with more clamp force and fail to make the hub strong enough.

I am not saying Zoom is this way, they have some heavy duty clutches, but for $358... . ? Just be careful in your research and good luck.

If it was me, with that kind of load, I would spend a little bit more on a clutch from a vendor who knows theses trucks better.....

I will chime in and second your vote, Sam... Consult with Southbend Clutch, as they do truly understand trucks and heavy duty clutch systems.

Side-note -- pleased to make your acquaintance, Sam, I have been a continuous Cummins-powered-Dodge owner since Sep of 1989 :) nice to meet another "old-timer".

Call South Bend and go with what they recommend. I have been using them for over 10 yrs. and 1,000,000 mi. , current clutch has over 200000 heavy towing 90% of the time.

I would talk to South Bend clutch to be sure you get a heavy duty disc hub and the right clutch overall. The transmission cross member is virtually the same as the 96; it is just wider (front to back) so it will work with the NV4500 five-speed and the NV5600 six-speed. you can flex the frame rails or just bump it upward a little with a heavy hammer to get the cross member out of the angled seats on the frame rails.

And to you. My 1991 was a great truck, wish I still had it, the regular cab just got too small.
