My brother has a 94 with a 12 valve. He has a Code 41. From what I can find searching the forums, the code is related to the charging system. He says that th alternator is charging fine. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find the cause of this code?

i have a 96 that wasnt charging but the alt was func properly when i had it tested

the truck also would start out in drive instead of first

and the tach wasnt working

it turned out to be the crank position sensor

Fault code 41 always comes with a 'check engine light'. Code 41 is "an open or short detected in the alternator field control circuit". Check the small wires going to the back of the alternator for a open or short condition.

A code 41 can leave the alternator in a charge mode, but it will likely over charge because of the fault.
