Code P0088 hesitation during acceleration

My MIL light came on yesterday and I have 2 codes in memory: P2269 and P0088. the first code is old the 0088 is new. 0088 says (Fuel rail pressure is high). Truck ran fine for about 70 miles and after 4 restarts the mil light extinguished. Then 10 miles later I started getting a severe hesitation around 1100 rpm then after about 2 seconds it takes off and runs fine. It does this on every shift. Now I have a very loud idle almost sounds like a 12v idling, but anything above 1400 rpm sound normal. I also noticed fuel leak/seepage on top of the common rail I never noticed before. Injector or not?

Dealer stumped so far.

Well my truck has been at the dealer for 2 days and so far they have not found the problem. They are working with the star room from dodge and about the only thing they have tested that has been eliminated is the injectors. yesterday evening they started doing a "Cold test" on the fuel, the service advisor could not give me any more details other than they are following the direction of the star room and trying to isolate problem. Does anyone know what the cold test entails?

3 days later the dealer called me this morning and said Star wants them to drop the fuel tank and test for excessive amount of water in fuel. Dealer also said they will not warranty if they find there is water in excess and that I will have to pay for dropping the tank and hours they have spent on labor. I had to bite my tounge when I heard that. Anyway I told him that I want to get a fuel sample the same time they get theirs to protect myself so that I can have a 3rd party analyze in case they try and not honor my warranty. The funny thing is they can't even tell me what they think is wrong with the truck. Star has not given them a diagnosis yet. I am getting pretty frustrated.

have you ever drained the fuel filter?

Yes I drained the fuel filter approx 250 miles ago. A new filter was installed at 14000 and 16500. I currently have 23500 on truck. I have not received a water in fuel light since last august at which time I promptly drained the filter. I would think if that caused any problems they would have shown up before now. I just called the station where I buy my diesel fuel and he says he can supply me with an analysis report of the diesel fuel he sells. Apparently he has a digital readout that monitors water and other contaminents in his bulk storage tank. And its a new tank!

I went and collected my fuel sample. The service manager showed me the sample they had collected before I arrived and there was some dirt and water showing in their sample. I watched them draw my sample in the brand new container I just purchased and it looked totally different, no dirt and no perceptible water on bottom. This is when I asked the manager to please contact their Zone rep if they decide they are not going to honor my warranty. He said he could not until Star advised him. Thats when I pulled out all my service records and had him make copies. I will try and keep this short: Back in May this vehicle incurred flood damage, standing water to the bottom of the seats. I had the vehicle towed to a dodge dealer in Kansas City and they did not total the truck. They replaced all the fluids and filters in everything, or so I thought, and wrote on the invoice "Factory warranty will be honored". So Dodge themselves gave this truck and engine their blessing and decided there was only $1400 worth of damage. That was in May with 16500 miles, I did get a water in fuel light on about a week after they returned the truck to me and I called them up and they advised me to just drain the filter, which I already had done. Well the light never came back and I never had any issues again. Truck has ran great since. I now have 23500 miles and several tanks of fuel. Guess what, looking at that invoice closely (Which I should have caught back in May) they never showed where they dropped the fuel tank or even replaced the fuel filter. So how can dodge say they won't warranty my truck when they said it was ok back in May and they never checked the fuel tank for excess water from a flood? Well the service manager changed his tune a little bit and made copies of all my invoices. I still think that if I was going to have problems from the flood it would have showed up sooner instead of waiting 8 months. Anyway I have my fuel sample waiting to get analyzed and an invoice that IMHO shows Dodge was negligent. We will see what happens on Monday.
