Your thoughts fellow TDR members. I got the dreaded P0216 code after a fuel filter change and I thought it may just be the priming that it took to get the air out of the system because I did fill the filter canister back up with fresh clean diesel (to save time) after cleaning the canister/replacing the filter. Cleared the codes (also getting P1693) with a handheld scanner assist from the local Auto Zone. Got the P0216 and P1693 again... cleared it. Took a short trip to SC and I have it again. Fuel pressure idle--11. 5-12 psi, at 60-70 mph ranges from 9. 5-8. 75 or so.

Dipricol fuel pressure is tapped off the VP 44 schrader through older (brass cylinder styled) Dipricol isolater and plumbed into my cab fuel pressure gauge (I believe with the use of antifreeze) to keep diesel out of the cab. Purchased the truck with Dipricol Fuel, pyrometer and boost, silencer ring removed, cool down timer, and manual throttle control... . otherwise bone stock.

Extra stock Carter under the seat from Hoesli Diesel.

Trying to figure out which way to go... at present no desires for major horsepower mods like fueling boxes, injectors, etc. Maybe just air intake and exhaust later...

1. Vulcan big line kit (remove banjos) and relocate the lift pump closer to the tank.

2. Carter 7 psi pusher and big line (remove banjos), leave stock lift pump stock location.

3. Air Dog nice but $$

Are you under 100,000 miles? DC will replaceYou need a VP44 I have the vulcan big line pusher set up and love it Pressure does not drop below 12 psi

45,000 on the odometer, 02 Dodge Ram 2500 P/U 4x4 Eth/Dee/SB/6spd

That would be BS if the warranty did not cover the codes I'm receiving (P0216 / P1693).

I got the 0216 code last month on a trip up to Oregon. Was passing a line of 7 - 8 OTR trucks, pulled out to pass, floored it and about 1/2 through the line the second truck from the front pulled out in front of me. I got off the throttle imediately and when I did the CEL came on. I pulled into the next rest area and check for codes. Finished the drive up to Oregon and back home, no CEL or problems since. No dead pedal, white smoke or any other symptoms, so far. Only 48k on the pump, running the FASS II @ 24 psi idle. Run power service, hopefully the code had to do with the instant off from being floored.

I had 0216 last summer on vacation.

It would dead pedal for about 2 seconds then fine (0216). Drove 1200 miles to Indiana and dead pedal pulling into campground (0216). Would 0216 if I pushed it hard. Conclusion was electronics had overheated. DC change it under warrantee.

dc route - first dealer, change lp only, next dealer, change cam position sensor, same dealer finally change VP44.

To get 0216 I had to take it out on a long stretch and run the hell out of it, then it would set a code. Mechanic would drive it around the block and no code. I took him out and drove the hell out of it and set the code. He said it was from electronics overheat when driving hard.

See my thread about keeping the VP44 cool, that thread is still in the experimentation stage, but getting closer.

Supposedly the newer electronics boards are less heat sensitive than the older boards. I had a 2002 board.

Also there is a poll about what year trucks kill the VP44 and the result is the 2002's are over 50% of the kills.

This also correlates somewhat to Hoof Hearted pushing it (heating it) then quickly off. Higher rpms heat the Vp44, lower rpm's are cooler. I can run 1400 rpm VP electronics bay cover (EBC) 85*, push rpms to 2000, EBC goes to 90* in less than 1 minute.

They will cover it, your gona have to be patient with them. My truck was down one week they need to confirm the code and then get the pump ordered. Good Luck, I would not let it go 216 = pump, go get it!

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Thanks mucho guys... exactly why the TDR is good mojo for us Cummins owners.

She's going in Friday morning and I'm not going to let them woof one over on me. I plan on keepin' this baby for a while. Love my truck, just want to keep it right.

P0216

I kept getting a 1693 companion code off and on. I 'd clear it and with in a week it would be back. Today my youngest son stopped by on his way out of town and put his scanner on it, P0216 was on there twice, one he said was pending, the P0216 had a pd after the code. The truck seems to run good though my milage has droped off some and doesn't start up as it has in the past, is that a symptom of this code? Will DC replace it for free? I have 60,000 miles on it and it is a 2001.

Thanks Chuck E.
