About 6 months ago, My truck lost throttle response at around 58 mph in OD. No speed loss or gain when I pressed the peddle. This event would only do it once in a while at first only in OD at around the same speed. After a couple of months it would periodically do it at different speeds when not in OD. I would check the LP pressure at the schraider valve (next to the VP 44). I would get OK numbers (14 at idle, 11 at cruise, and 7 at WOT).
I checked my codes and got the 0216 and a couple of others. I took my truck to the dealer and had them check it out. The service writer said the truck did not have any codes, but recommended a filter change. I asked about the codes on the odometer and was told those are for something else. I changed the filter and the problem would still come up.
A couple of times I would start it up and it would not sound like the typical Cummins sound (sorta like a gasser-whoosing air-white smoke-rough running). I would take off and it would not have any power and I would have to turn it off and then it would sound and run fine after startup.
I was then told by a diesel injection service that the best CTD tech in my area was at a particular dealer. So I take it in and tell the service writer the history and the problems. The tech drives it and says "could not duplicate the problem". I was able to talk to the tech and he said that the codes I get are (you guessed it) for "something else". The tech says that the codes he looks for are 2 digit codes.
I have changed the filter again, checked the pressure again, I get my fuel from a high volume retailer. I pull a loaded trailer to Gainesville on the weekends and do not want the truck to die when towing.
I want to upgrade my fuel system, but do not want to do it now because of possible warranty issues.
