I have a 95 4X4. Got the recall notice a few months ago. Finally got around to taking to couple of dealers and both said it would take a couple of days. Recall letter says 4 to 7 hours. What has been other member experiences?

I took mine in for a morning appointment and picked it up in the early afternoon. The time required for the work depends on what kind of shape your shock towers are in. If they are ok, like mine were, then they weld on a bracket that braces the existing shock tower. If they are cracked, then the shock tower must be replaced before the reinforcing bracket is welded on. However, a couple of days doesn't sound right. The estimate I got was about three hours if the towers were ok and about eight if they were cracked. It took about three hours for the job on mine. My dealer in Eureka has a very good service shop.

I would recommend to investigate exactly what they are planning on doing before you give the go-ahead. My wife brought my truck in and no towers were cracked. So, it looks like they only welded around the holes onto the frame. They told me over the phone that they added brackets, but they are not on my truck. Just be cautious about what they do!

Thanks for replies. Recall notice says what you're reporting (3hrs if no cracks and 7 if problems). Both dealerships that I took to were going to send out to a body shop (both were using same shop by the way). Got one more to try here in the Derby and one accross the bridge in IN. If I cain't improve on the two days do you think DC will pay for a rental. Or should I not hold my breath.

Ahhh, I understand what's happening now. The recall instructions require that a certified welder do the job. If the dealer does NOT have a certified welder on their service staff they have to contract out the job. This must be the case with your dealer. Be glad that they are doing that instead of using one of their employees who says "Yeah, I know how to weld" but can't produce the certification.

I took mine to the dealer in Scottsbluff on a Friday. They promised a Loaner but when we got to the dealer, no loaner. After hownding for 30 miniutes they got me a Rental.

Friday after noon about 3:30 We stopped back and they had the spring out of my truck and said they had to have a welder from a body shop weld on the supports. Guess what The body shop wouldn't have a welder untill Saturday morning and then the dealer's mechanic wouldn't get the truck back together untill Monday.

So they gave me a Loaner, They didn't want to pay for a rental untill monday. We went home, about 2 hours away, and Read about the recall on the Ignition switch on this site. Called Monday to the dealer and they got it back in and fixed the switch recall and delevered it on Tuesday.

The only thing I didn't like about there work is they sprayed that nasty black cr@# all over the welds/fame and got overspray all over my cummins/hoses/wires/etc.

Sorry about the book.

No I haven't Tlippy. I looked it up in phone book. I actually live in the little community of Fern Creek and don't get to that area very often.

Charlie,
Had the shock tower weld job done on my '95, only took 1/2 day, but the body shop is right across the street from dealership, and it also helps when you marry the office manager at the Dodge dealer!
