When the auto on my 08 2500 is around 55 degrees or less, it seems to jerk and bind before it warms up. This is most noticeable in reverse. Any serious concerns?

Sure. When I shift into reverse initially and let off the brake, there is a jerking and the truck accelerates much more quickly than usual without the engine RPM changing from normal revs. The jerking continues for a few seconds and then everything returns to normal. This has happened many times in reverse, but only twice in drive.

I have never heard of this.

When you say jerking, is it like the transmission is slipping or going in and out of gear?

I've got the same thing going on. I don't shift into reverse as I pull forward in the morning, so I don't know if it does it in reverse.

What I get ***sometimes*** is the transmission will not engage immediately after I shift into drive. It takes about 3-5 seconds before I can drive. If I push the accelerator, it will free rev. One time I noticed the surge you described as I moved forward. It felt like the truck started in second gear for a second or two and then dropped into first.

I had the dealer look at it during the first oil change (free 3 year oil, filter, and lube for military). They said they updated some software, but it still does the same thing. It happens only when the truck is cold. I've started letting the truck idle for a minute or two while I clear the windows and it doesn't give me any problems.

Really weird feeling though to have the truck in drive and not go...

I've got the "surge" going on also. When I pull forward and immediately let off it feels like the accelerator hangs up for a split second. I only notice it when I first start out. Not bad enough to make an appointment but if I ever take it in I'll mention it. 8,200 miles been doing it since new.

My o9 will surge sometimes just off the line. It acts like I'm pumping the throttle. I think that's an electrical glitch. The problem of the transmission not engaging right away after putting it in gear is usually the torque converter draining down after sitting. My old chrysler did it since it was new, but never got worse or broke.
