2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Colorado Registration

I need to register the truck and am wondering what I'll pay for registration in Colorado. I was wondering if anyone could give me a general idea.

I think my 1st year in CO was somewhere around $600 +/- $100. It goes down after each year for a while.

I just got my new tags yesterday, $960:--) for FARM TAGS :{ . This is for an '03 in Larimer County. He said that if I would have gotten regular truck tags it would have been $1200-$1400. He said it will go down considerably next year, I said that sure doesn't help me now though does it. This is highway robbery if you ask me:-{}

WOW! That's ridiculous. I was thinking at most it would be in the 600s, like California. I might have to make a trip to Oregon and pay $30 for 2 years. (I'm in school, and have Oregon residency. )

If you can get it registered in Oregon I would, it varies by county but I can't see Denver being much different than Larimer County, the whole front range is a mess. Maybe someone that lives down there will chime in and give you a better idea. There is no reason for Colorado to charge this much for tags, all the rest of the 49 states have to maintain and build new roads too and they don't charge this much, my dad recently registered his "03 in Texas and it cost him under $200 if I remember right:{ . The first year, mine was $630. 00. Second year $499. 00. Third year $432. 00.

OTOH, no mountains either, and way too much humidity. :{



Must be a matter of getting what you pay for, one way or another.

my Texas farm tags were $25. 00, we do have property in CO but haven't registered any vehicles there. . :--)

I think farm plates might be more 'cause I paid 775. 19 for almost the same truck and I also live Larimer County.

I just paid the Arapahoe County Clerk $486 last week for my 2002 truck

I dont remember the exact dollar total I paid last year when my truck was new but it was close to a $1,000, I do have the fancy plates though, not custom ones just the upgrades. I think it was $945 or something like that. All I remember was I didnt feel as good that day about the purchase of my CTD when I left as compared to before I got there. Mine is licensed in Weld County, Greeley city limits.

My truck was under $600 last year when I bought it new. That's registration only not sales tax.



I'm not looking forward to see how much it will be this year

My old 99 Ram 3500, $152 for the license fee, County of Jefferson, with all the taxes I wrote the check for $540. They didn't tell me it would go down anytime soon.

Jefferson county Lakewood License fees

We paid $994 a few months ago and we live in Lakewood for our 03 Laramie.

I think my recolection on this is correct.



I just thought I would mention that the 1st time you register a vehicle in Colorado, your license fee is for 12 months plus the time from when you took delivery of the vehicle till the time you registered it. This is typically about 14 months, which is why the 1st registration is especially high. At least the ownership tax is deductable.

It sure would be nice if Colo. actually used any of that money to improve their state roads. One would think with all the new people and largely increased tax base they would have 4-laned many of their over-busy 2-laners. Their 4 lane interstates should have been widened 10 years ago when they knew the boom was coming. All that takes is an application for federal funding. Many hoops to jump through, but still should have been done. In Wyo. when a vehicle is purchased, the sales tax is taken care of at the time when plates are purchased. My first round of plates were in the neighborhood of $1600. Next year they dropped to around $200.

Yeah tell me about it!! I wonder what the revenue yearly for Colorado Licensing is?



In Colorado you have the option to pay the sales tax at the dealership or at the license plate place. I bit the bullet and did it at the dealership, would have hate to see the check I would have had to write at the DMV had I waited

The good news, small by comparison, as that they only charge us for the value over and above our trade regarding sales tax. They could I guess charge the full amount each time. Small solus.



I am thinking this might be my last Ram (of course I thought that with the last one until I clearly saw I needed better gearing, more power and the brakes su**ed. ) If I can maintain this properly, the truck could easily outlast either of us. On the other hand, who knows what great features they might add to help an old man with his tasks.
