When i start my truck for the first time that day or sometimes anytime. As soon as i turn on the a/c the compresser makes a nasty clunk! I took it to dodge and of course they didnt hear it. I have had the truck for little over a year, bought it brand new. Hope someone can help :(

Same thing here, does not do it everytime though. First time I heard it I thought it was gonna fall out from under the truck.

My 03 and 04 both did it on first start up. There is a flash for the 06 that made my 06 much quieter. The older trucks make the noise but never have seen an A/C failure as a result.

My 2003 model did the same thing. Everytime I turned it on for the first six months I would hold my breath. It sounded awful! Eventually I got used to it but it makes you wonder how long it can hold up before something breaks. Fortunately my 06 doesn't do it.

My 04 did it for about a year and has not done it since. I'm like you thought it was going to rip the guts out of the compressor. I thought maybe because I was not using it or that the humidity got to the surfaces, that maybe these were causing it. But like I said hasn't done it in about year.

04 SRW H. O. 3500 Quad cab, Graphite Metallic, Dark Slate Interior, Teflon Coated wheels that match truck, Debadged, K&N Filter, Silencer Ring MIA, 5" Exh, Autometer Gauges for everthing, TST stacked with Garmons Box, Bright Box (God I love this little jewel)

Mine does it too. Usually only on the first start-up of the day. The rest are the normal compressor clutch click in and out.

I have not paid any attention as to how it works, but after the flash mine is much quieter. I need to look at it, but I believe they engage the clutch on cranking so it does not slam up to speed on the first engagement to 750 rpm. The minivans had compressor failure a few years ago from oil slugging and they flashed those to engage on cranking to fix the problem.

My 2005,,,, clunks every month or so... . One time is was sticking and sounded like a tire iron was thrown into my fan shroud! :{

Oo. :eek: :( :-{}

Mine does it too (during the warmer months only). Kinda sounds like a grenade has gone off under the hood when it happens, but everything is still working OK, so far.

:(

mine has done it for all 42k miles on my 05 and all 165k on the 01 althought the 01 is not as loud but that may be because you can't hear it on the 01 as well :--)

06 2500, G56, 6000 Miles , Does Make Terrible Noise At Times, When Compressor Kicks In, Sounds Like Could Cause Damage To Clutch, And I Agree At Times It Is Down Right Scary Sounding.

My truck weighs nearly 9K empty, the trailer about 7K. The A/C wil rattle the doors on the trailer when it kicks on/off. Been doing that for about 2yrs and it still works. I still cringe everytime I hear it though.
