Got it from Geno's, and it's an OK product. Looks good with the hood up, but with the hood down you see it through the grill and it just doesn't look right. I may have to paint it black. I sure hate to do that to a pretty piece of stainless steel.

Got a pic Fireman? I'm considering building my own as a product but if Geno's is the ticket, I'll bow out and just buy theirs. I couldn't find anything on their website.

Where do they screw the cover down?

I am considering buying or building a cover also. I am wondering where they screw it down, am interested to hear that it shows through the grill which will probably need some attention. I am wondering if black all over might look better with some custom badging. Anyway if you get a chance to take a picture I would be interested as well. Keep us posted.

I made mine out of 1" X 3" X 1/16" aluminum extruded angle and fastened it with 3M outdoor 2 sided carpet tape. The stuff holds like it was welded. I painted it satin black.

Kilby,

I ordered one yesterday from Geno's. The part number is MPC-Grille Guard and it is for the '03 trucks. The cost is $23. 50. I was told it could be a couple of weeks because they order them as needed.

Question on aluminum used.

""Don Edmonds I made mine out of 1" X 3" X 1/16" aluminum extruded angle and fastened it with 3M outdoor 2 sided carpet tape. ""

I am unfamiliar with the language here, so if I could ask an uninformed question. I am just not understanding, so please bear with me.

Dimensions: If I visualize 1" x 3", that doesn't even seem to be enough to start to cover the area. So I don't see if you used multiple pieces and somehow joined them together? or?

What is "aluminum" extruded angle? I understand the term extruded as it relates to graphics anyway, it is to extend in depth, but I don't understand the combination use of the term extruded angle.

Where can I purchase this product if it is available @ retail?

Thank you for explaining to the uninitiated.

Regards,

Ron & Jodi

The guard that Geno's sells only protects the vulnerable top of the a/c condenser. It screws into existing holes. I went with it because that seems to be the main area that you might have trouble. I cannot understand why D/C left it that way.

I did a search on Geno's site and could not access the link to a guard. Could one of you computer whiz guys post a link?:D

Thanks Ken

I should have said 1" X 3" X 1/16" X 27" long aluminum angle. "Extruded", to me at least, is a manufacturing process, the corner inside the bend is very sharp, in fact the angle is not bent but formed at the mill. I put the tape on the 3" side for all 27" and stuck it to the next cooler back. I got my angle in my back yard junk pile but any metal supplier should have something. I hope this helps. Don

I got mine and installed it on tuesday. Yes the bright stainless stands out thru the grill. I plan on adding '1 BAD DIESEL" in black lettering on it. The stainless push bar with the 2 KC Dayliters ends just below it.

Here's what I had in mind. Keep in mind that this is just a prototype. It's steel and it's not painted in the pics. The paint is drying right now. :)

Edit: A new pic with paint.

Kilby, I like it but I was thinking of the angle on the top with holes to put window screen on for the bugs. This could also be a flat bar across the top that would b wide enuff to hang over the front of the fins by about a 1/4". Then just hang the screen and when needed replace screen (like we did on the other - old - ones).

SOTSU!

The window screen isn't gonna keep your foot from smashing the fins in the front if you step on the bumper. My goal is to protect the condenser. You can still hang the screen on this cover if you wanted to. :)

Wish I could send a pic, but I can't. he guard is in the latest Geno's catalog #40. You have to put 4-5 quarter sized dabs of RTV on top of the intercooler and the 2 screws go into existing holes on the flange of the condenser. I wish I had gotten it a day sooner, before the guy who replaced my alternator bracket had mashed them all down. I have put on a Jake Brake and a b-pass oil filter and not done 1/3 the damage he did.

Back to the guard. It is a high quality item and reasonably priced, but it is highly visable through the gril ( not good ) and because the cndenser is off center, so is the guard. We still need something to protect the whole condenser, small rocks are wreaking havoc with mine.

Brad, that looks really nice! Justa add a solid piece at the top, and a snap-on otional bug screen and it would make a great package!

I was a little more concerned with bugs in the various "heat exchangers" than bending the condenser fins. For an easy fix for a bug screen, I used fiberglass window screen and placed it in front of the 3 heat exchangers, passed it under and behind the cross member and then up. I attached the screen by pulling the small diameter hose that crosses the radiator, placing the screen above the clips and pressing the hose back into the clips. This installation has all the things I like: cheap, easy to take out and clean or replace and cheap.

Why add a solid piece? The steel screen already covers the top. The bottom too for that matter. You won't be bending the fins with this setup.
