Elimination of the crumple zone function provided by the front sheetmetal is one such consideration. Rusty

Not eliminated, dynamically transfered. The new crumple zone is the KIA (or whatever) you hit...

Massive bumpers front and rear

I call my front bumper the"80 mph hit a deer and clean 'em off with a hose" bumper. I got the massive rear at the same time mainly to protect the fenders and take care of a minor rear ender or even a moderate one. I carry a can of black gloss enamel for repairs on both... With heavy bumpers on both front and rear, if it settled any, I'm pretty sure it was about the same front and rear.

I put a stout set of heavy steel bumpers on both ends of my truck about a year and a half ago. I have the "snow plow prep pkg. " front springs on mine so it sat almost level prior to installing the bumpers. Just for kicks, I installed a set of "leveling spacers" up front when I put on the bumpers. The truck sits perfect now with the complete package installed. My front end is notably heavier with the bumper and 12,000 Warn winch installed; but the ride has not suffered any. I might have lost some fuel efficiancy when running down the highway though.

The one thing I can say is that the truck is more protected now at both ends and will withstand a fair impact without damage. I like the comfort of knowing that a deer or the like will not disable my truck as likely on a dark lonely strech of road.

Asthetically it looks better, I'm constantly getting inquiries and comments about the bumpers.

Hope this helps!

My aftermarket front bumpers only con, is a slight reduction in MPG. A cost I gladly accept. These trucks do have a considerable amount of design in areodynamics on the front end. The rear needs help.
