Cooked transmission/ Jiffy Lube outcome

Well, as promised I'm gonna tell ya what happened w/ Jiffy Lube Small Claims suit. . (My transmission, 5spd, cooked 4 days after having full service @ Jiffy Lube and no fluid in transmission and no apreciable leakage), They fought it all the way. Sent a very young fellow to court, (Feb. 2 '04), who used every tactic he could think of to make excuses about how it was my fault. BUT the judge saw right thru him. Also I brought the owner of the Trans shop as a witness to confirm that the trans wasn't leaking nearly enough to explain loss of 3 1/2 qts in 4 days. Best part was when the judge asked the Jiffy Lube guy where was the fellow who worked on my truck. He had to tell the judge (and the whole court room), that he didn't work for them any more!! (Chuckle). . (Now I'm wondering how long this dope they sent to court will be working for them). You'd think that when we finally got to the trial and he saw that I had brought a witness, he woulda offered me a settlement right there. Dumb. There was a point earlier in the process that I would have considered a 'reasonable' offer to offset the cost. . but NO. . They wanted to fight it, so they lost a total of about $3000. Bottom line is, They were not willing to admit their mistake, wouldn't accept the obvious and fought me all the way. I can only assume they are willing to risk the bad publicity as a normal course of action. They will NEVER get my business again!!! Please tell your friends! This kind of behavior should have consequences! JohnG

One more testimonial to doing your own work.

Absolutely right Joe G. It's up to the individual if they want someone else to do work on their rig, but for me, I do all work that I am capable of doing because of "service" like this.

Sorry to hear about your damages John.

I always change my own fluids. Quick story to why. After a shoulder operation I had to take my sports car in for an oil change. I drove up and a young kid met me at the drive. I got out and he slid in. GGRRRRINNNNGGGG! He tried to start my car with it running. He looked at me sheepishly and said,"Wow. It's so quiet I didn't know it was running. " To which I retorted,"That's what the tach is for". At the next clutch change I also replaced the flywheel.

I've heard so many horror stories from the Jiffy Jerk that I'll just highlight a few I heard in Tech school.

Ever put a drain plug in with a 3/8ths air ratchet... . I don't... . they do.

If the drain plug is stripped(probably by them)... . they have Rubber plugs that work just as well... they promise, and make you sign a release.

Don't bother asking for any specific oil... . they put in what ever floats their boat anyway.

they drained the gearbox and sent you down the road?

Jp those are some of the most ridiculous urban legends I have ever heard, gonna have to get dist and kta to make a new urban legend 12 or 13

pennz makes 75-85 gl 4 in qts now, and other places do stock syntorque because it is used in more applications than just our sickly 4500's

transmission oil in an engine

My former boss had a jiffy lube put transmission fluid in his engine oil. Car made it home and that is all. Unfornately who ever pulled the sample lost it so he was out the money.
