While changing the oil and servicing my 03 this weekend I noticed a coolant leak. The coolant could be seen on the bottom of the oil filter mounting assembly where it bolts to the block. I at first figured the water pump was leaking again and time to replace it as it has been about 100k miles since it was replaced last. I looked it over and couldn't find the leak originating from the pump. My question is there water passages under the oil filter mounting assembly where it bolts to the block that could be leaking?

On a second note the power steering pump has always seeped some but it also looks like it has gotten worse. Is it better to replace whole pump or just the reservoir as that is where the leak appears to be.

Thanks for the advice.

There are one or two (depending on model year and configuration) short coolant hoses behind the alternator and also the turbo that are prone to leaking. If you take 10 minutes to remove the airbox and air tubes going to the turbo intake you will be able to see and inspect the coolant hoses MUCH more easily.

Thanks for the info guys I will clean it up a little and take the hoses off and see what I have hiding.

The answer to this question is yes. The part that the oil filter screws on covers the Engine Oil Cooler. It uses engine coolant to cool the engine oil and it can leak coolant. It is item #11 below.

An external leak from the oil cooler is extremely rare.Although not common the seal between the bracket and the block is not rare

I believe that this is the square cut o-ring that Bob is referring to.....just to give you another area to inspect while you are poking around..

Ok I have done some more looking and I am maybe even more confused. Pulled truck in garage and it sat for two days. The puddle of antifreeze would have filled a spray can cap about half way up. Looked all over from the top and bottom and only thing I see wet and dripping is on the bottom of #5 in the above picture but it looks like it is more between the layers. #5 was also damp up about 3inches from the bottom on the outside. Looking at this picture and at Mikes if it was the square cut Oring would it be running down the front of the oil cooler assembly more so than just dripping of the bottom of it? Also If it is the oil cooler leaking wouldn't it show up in the oil also?
