Cooper Discoverer STT Radials-delete please

Howdy,

Won't be long now till I need some new tires on my 91 (285's) , and I really like the look of the new STT's. Is anyone carrying them yet? Anybody running them? Haven't heard alot about them yet. I currently have the ST's, which I like pretty good- about 30k on them.

Steven

Sorry about the double post, please delete one. Thanks

i have had three sets of the cooper STT in a 33x12. 50x16. 5 on my truck. only get about 13000 miles out of them tops (unless you run beyond the wear indicators). in general they have been an ok tire... . however, i have had two if them split the side wall... about a 2 inch split running mid side wall in the direction of the rim to the tread. both tires that did this were on the front and were about worn out already. i think the reason the split is because i could only get load range D in that size, and between the heavy engine and the winch and bumper i have (extra 300 pounds) there was more than usual side wall flex that lead to failure. yes, they were properly inflated... i check tire pressure regulary. don't just rely on the load range letter to determine load capacity of the tire. in the fine print on the side wall the max load is usually inscribed xxxx pounds at xx PSI Cold. The STT's that i had read 2930 pounds at 50 PSI cold... max pressure 50 PSI. i have new BFG A/T in a 285/75/16 load rated D again, but the max load on them is 3300 pounds. so same load range... 400 pounds difference. so much for "standards"

same name on them, but that is a different tread pattern. hope they have a new carcass as well as tread. i liked the traction that they provided, just think they were built a little weak for our heavy trucks.

You may want to look at Mastercraft CT's they are pretty aggressive and last alot longer than the coopers do. All I used to run is cooper and now I switched to these all see if I cant find a pic of them and post it.

I an running the ST tires in size 285.

It appears to be a great tire. With over 10,000 miles they still show 17 /32 tread depth.

I have watched the front end alignment closely and it is correct.

Yeah, the ST's are a good tire, that's what I have now. I have at least 30,000 on mine. May be alot more, (no odometer).

Edit- I checked today and one place could order the STT's , about 150ish. They have had some(285's) on order for a few weeks though.

The STT's are Coopers answer to the newest rage in tires designed for the rock crawlers. They have the "puncture proof" sidewalls and a tread that is suppsed to provide better grip and clean out faster. I wanted them when I bought the Firestone Destination M/T's but Cooper hadn't gave the OK for release at that point,so the M/T's went on instead. I have about 16,000 miles on my M/Ts and they have proved as durable and as evenly wearing as the Coopers.

The original Cooper Discoverer S/T's I bought I got 57,000 miles out of them and like Coopers products. You always hear negative about their products but I have nothing to say but good thngs on them... ... . Andy

I ran the STs this winter and they performed excellent. Plus, they'll be back on next winter too. We also have a couple company rigs with the Mastercrafts and they have performed quite well - much better than the stock BFGs and Ameritracs. My . 01
