I have Michelin's on my truck, but my mechanic sells Cooper's.

Can any one tell me how many miles to expect out of Cooper's.

Any body have any Cooper experience?

I was honestly debating getting coopers for my truck when I had to do that whole new tire thing. I ended up choosing the BFG AT/KO's and am not satisfied. I'm personally going back to Michelins when I have to buy new tires again.

Personally I am glad I didn't go with coopers... I have just heard too many horror stories here on the TDR about them.

Just my $. 02

Last set I went with Cavalier tires.

They're make by Michelin, and cost $80 each instead of $130. (Load range D) but I mostly haul empty/small trailer. :D

They're more of a commercial grade so I hope they'll hold up.

So far so good. ;)

I put Cooper Discoverer H/T tires on this past March. I haven't had them on long enough to say what kind of milage you can get, but the ride and handling is excellent IMO. The truck had some worn Michilins on the front and something with more agressive tread on the rear when I got it, and I didn't realize just how much road noise was getting inside the truck until I put these new tires on - what a difference!

I did search the archives to find out what others had experienced with Coopers and several did say that they got very good wear out of them. But, of course, that is all relative to the tread design of the tire and the type of driving you do so it's really hard to compare apples to apples.

Jim, I've had several sets of Coopers on my previous trucks. They're ok. I had the 255/85 AT type. Got around 40k if I rotated regularly.

I replaced my stock Michelin 265 A/S tires with 285 Cooper A/Ts in Nov. '01 because I wanted a better snow tire. The Michelins were God awfull in the previous winter. Well the Coopers are still on because the all around performance, on and off road, has been very good. I've only got about 11k miles on them, rotated once, and I would say about 20% wear, so 40-50k sounds right. Have Fun, Jim G.

:)

Tires

I run Cooper SRMII's. I'm on my second set. I get 60k miles out of them with regular rotation. Good tires!:D :D :D

I have used Michellins on all my vehicles for the past 10 years. I have never had any problems with them, they are great in the rain and very quiet. So, in my "If there not broken, dont fix them" mentallity, i stick with Michellins. Just my 2c

The stock Michelins gave me great road performance and good mpg. I tried a set of relatively aggressive Coopers, and mpg dropped about 2 mpg. Ended up with a set of BFG AT's - not as good as the Coopers for sloppy roads, but much better than the Michelins. MPG was in between - better than the Coopers, but not as good as the "road" tread Michelins.

My overall spin on the Coopers is that they seem to have a full range of tires. Those who by at the bottom end of that range aren't very pleased; those who buy at the other end seem quite satisfied.

Michelins

Have just over 60k miles on my stock Michelins and they are doing fine. Will change them before Winter so I have more "bite" in the snow.

Have always had excellent luck with Michelins.

The Discoverer S/T is a relatively aggressive tire, somewhat similar to the BFG T/A. I had a set on a work pickup, which I drove lots of gravel on, and they seemed to wear very well. The are about 5-10 bucks less per tire than the BFG's.

One of the salesmen at a tire shop told me they are a harder rubber compound than the other Discoverer tires and would hold up better on a Dodge Cummins.

I have Firestone A/Ts on right now, but will probably go with the Coopers next time around.

Love my Michelin,s Like the man said If it's not broken don't fix it. For the load we carry I got 54k . We put new ones on so we would not have to buy tires on the road for our last 10k trip. I do buy tires long before others would, but we don't have tire troubles. Knock on wood:D :D

Ah yes,the great tire debate revisited..

Tires are a flavor round here like shocks and trannies, one crowd uses this one and the other the other brands,,I have a set of Cooper ST's on my ride and love them,,They have a stiffer tread/sidewall designed for use on the diesel pickup market and their heavy motors,,They handle well in any condition on the road so far, snow or rain,,I can not say how well they do off in the mud as mine never sees mud or out in the dirt,,They have performed well towing and I myself can not find a flaw in them,,this is the best set of tires I've had in a long while and would recommend them to anyone,,Your truck, your choice... ... . Andy

Good in the mud!

Hammer,

Your S/Ts will perfrom very well in the mud. While they are not as good as the Discover STTs for pure off road travel, they will hold up much longer (about 25%). Also, the S/Ts seem to be much better in mud and snow than the Cooper CTD. I have found that you need to get some tire speed to clean out the S/Ts. I like the aggressive shoulder of the S/T.
