Negative report on tilt bed trailer

A question we must ask ourselves at some time.

All registrations in RI list gvw. All trucks over 1/2 ton must register commercial. As stated, Registration only $70+ a year. The rest is town tax. Pretty stiff for the pleasure of owning a 10 year old 350,000 mile truck.

My point is that, as most private use trucks are registered as commercial, they tag you for a weight fee, but they don't care what you tow as long as it doesn't go into CDL weights. An example of this would be a 5ver connected to your truck with a GCVW of 20K, your weight fee didn't include the added weight of 5K lbs, but your legal. Where as my C&C I must declare that weight as well as post that weight on the door with a tag I also have to pay for, BTW I'm also required to go into the scales, although I ignore them. My 04.5 was close to that fee you have on yours and when I sold it to my brother in Idaho, he paid less than a hundred bucks. California is out of control with registration costs, SOoooo I registered it for 15K and don't use the door sticker or go through scales and haul my 5ver regardless, I'm not commercial and ignore that part of DOT/DMV, just hope it don't bite me in the ash. If I was to register it for 23K GCVW it would cost me a couple of hundred more, but the 15K GCVW I register it at, is about what a reg 3500 DRW truck is registered for.

In Michigan my 2012, 3500 is $230. a year and the trailers are one time plates at $75, $150, and $300, depending of gross
weight. They base cost on value of car by year.

I got tired of all of the taxes in GA that I am paying on my vehicles. An S-10, 3500, Harley and my gooseneck. A friend of mine that lives in GA had Maine tags on his race car trailer. I asked him how he did it. He gave me name called the Staab Agency in Maine. Called them told them what I had and 2-3 weeks later I was tagged titled and registered in Maine for $275 with a tag for 13 years compared to a single year at $500 in GA.

I guess we are pretty lucky here in farm country. $76.00 for any non commercial truck plate under 10,000 lbs GVW, virtually all other autos (cars, minivans, SUV's, etc) are $55.00 annually. My 14k lb GVW tilt trailer registration runs right around $46.oo annually, all due on the registered owners birthdate.
Boats and ATV's are every 3 years. In 15 years of owning an ATV I have never registered one. We are a rural county made largely of dairy farms, and law enforcement just does not seem to care. I have literally ridden my ATV all over the county and they don't even look twice at you.

We have to pay sales tax on the purchase price of the vehicle (new or used). It is either paid at the dealership or the liscense bureau when getting the title switched over to your name. After that it is an annual registration fee, no sales tax included.

Here in Ontario trailers (non commercial) have a one time plate fee of 35.00 Then it gets complicated....
A DRW truck registered at 9900lb is about 140.00 annual.and requires a etest every two years. If it is registered over 10K it is an annual etest (140.00 approx). Any trailer towed behind it that is not an RV requires a annual safety. Any trailer , that puts MORE than 6250Lb on on the trailer axles WHEN attached to tow vehicle must be included in registered weight of the truck. (20K plate is approx 440.00). Once your truck registered weight is over 10K and not pulling RV you are supposed to pull into scales,as well as run a log book with daily circle check.
If you have a slide in camper , it is considered a motorhome and pretty much excempt from everything except registered weight.
