Hey Chris, I would still consider pulling the altenator fuse and taking it for a spin just to eliminate it. It seems as though you've really covered your bases with everything else, AC noise is probably the nost common cause of the lock/unlock issues and simply removing the fuse will tell you reassure you in short order you've got a good altenator.

I really feel for ya, dealing with a driveability issue for that long of a time has got to be frustrating to say the least. I think I would have probably yanked it in favor of an NV5600 by now just to try to salvage what little sanity I had left from dealing with the same problem for so long.

Why would alternator noise from two different ones be load related?

BTW a couple years ago I took the DTT smart controller out out put their bypass plug in. Same same.

Oh yeah, I installed a new speed sensor also. Use to do it when I first started a trip and then settle down. Seems more persistent now.

Installed a mystery switch and the torque stays locked. Ready this morning a found something new to try. The APPS ECM bypass rewire. The APPS actually connects to the ECM first then forwards a TPS signal to the PCM. This mode calls for connecting a wire (light bule/black) from pin 3 at the APPS and running it two the PCM where you cut wire (orange/dark blue) on C1 pin 23. Connect the new jump to the PCM end and tape back the wire from the ECM. Going to do this today and see if going home tomorrow with the trailer it is fixed.

This is the first time I have every seen this rewire.

I hate doing that rewire because it is a hack on the system and you never know exactly where the issue is, wiring or the ECM. Could be the pin\socket on the ECU connector, the wiring in between or even the ECU. Positive aspect is if it works, the problem is solved.

Well it did not charge it. I am thinking more it is something to do with the TPS setting on the DTT smart controller. The controller has a TPS setting to force an unlock to protect earlier single disc TC. Got to figure out how to disable that feature.

It is sorta like new problem, as the TPS light now actually turns on. With the DTT transmission the light would just flash quickly and unlock.

Anyone else with a DTT smart controller have a similar problem?

Update!!!!

On the way home from Eastern Washington we took Stevens Pass. Very few unlocks of the TC, so maybe the ECM bypass has some merit. Lots of hills and the pass. Did not even have to use the mystery switch. Think I will put a red pilot guard on it and leave it installed. Snoking

very sorry about your transmission problems. Your TC unlock/ lock try to fix list is about twice as long as mine. there is no rhyme or reason to this and it drives me crazy. thanks for the link for the rewire. Also does anyone have a wiring diagram of the mystery switch handy in PDF I think I will try this next.

I fixed my lock unlock problem a couple years ago. All I did was run a #12 stranded wire from the nut on the back of the alt. to the (-) battery. That did it. You might also check your brake switch at the top of the brake peddle. I had an issue with it once, it had the brake lights stuck on and it did weird stuff with not wanting to lockup.

I narrowed my problem to the DTT smart controllers unlock circuit based on throttle position. I put a jumper in so the smart controller can not force an unlock and now no unlocks. Snoking
